About the Job

Works under general supervision of a physician and/or APP to provide clinical support to physicians and APPs in the delivery of patient clinical care and administrative support.

Responsibilities
  • Be at the designated workstation prepared and ready to work during specified work hours as assigned.
  • Ensure the clinic opens, including unlocking doors, turning on lights, and preparing equipment at the workstation, charting, and starting up the system as needed.
  • Maintain an efficient patient flow for the provider.
  • Answer incoming calls, assist with acute symptoms, and discuss these with the physician when necessary.
  • Process and document all prescriptions in the patient’s electronic health record.
  • Document calls and all communications in the patient’s record in the EHR.
  • Perform tasks that are assigned by the provider, including tests and procedures.
  • Assist the provider with exams and procedures.
  • Clean, prepare, and stock exam rooms, lab areas, and supplies daily.
  • Prepare specimens for the lab as required.
  • Adhere to the lab inventory management system for all specimens to be sent out.
  • Administer injections and draw blood using aseptic technique.
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments daily.
  • Perform catheterization using sterile technique.
  • Document all essential medical assistant workflow in the appropriate EHR templates.
  • Complete reports for missing results as instructed by the administrator.
  • Complete all required logs within the timelines specified by OSHA, such as exam room cleaning logs and temperature logs.
  • Manage and maintain CLIA requirements as necessary.
  • Maintain a stock of all medical supplies necessary for clinic operations and order supplies or notify the administrator of supply needs.
  • Complete/Process all prior authorizations for medications.
  • Complete and file Title 19s as needed.
  • Complete the Letter of Medical Necessity as required.
  • Manage chart entry and ensure all clinical notes are properly recorded for the provider’s services each week.
  • Ensure all files in exam rooms and provider files are stocked on a weekly or daily basis as needed.
  • Perform weekly equipment testing and cleaning as required.
  • Maintain the supply cabinet and ensure instruments are ready for use.
  • Notify the call center of any scheduling changes for physicians.
  • Complete all patient phone calls by the end of each day.
  • Schedule outpatient or inpatient surgeries or services as assigned.
  • Perform any tasks, duties or special projects assigned by the administrator.
Qualifications
  • Maintain a basic understanding of urology-related terminology, medications, and procedures.
  • Analyze and prioritize information to maintain an organized and efficient clinical structure.
  • Utilize strong communication skills during interactions with patients, coworkers, and providers.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all coworkers and healthcare professionals.
  • Perform work in accordance with established procedures and independent judgment.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and clear verbal and written communication.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for all work environments.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask and attend to detail.
  • Understand medical office methods and procedures.
  • Perform specimen collection, vital signs, urinalysis, catheterization, and instrument sterilization.
  • Possess basic computer skills and an understanding of EMR/PM and document management systems.
  • Maintain Medical Assistant certification and required continuing education units.
