The University of Miami/UHealth department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Certified Medical Assistant 3 to work Hybrid in Miami, FL. The Medical Assistant 3 performs multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The Medical Assistant 3 assists patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The Medical Assistant 3 provides hands on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 3 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The incumbent adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The role provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The Medical Assistant 3 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.

Learns and utilizes available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating pertinent information regarding clinical situations, diagnosis, and treatments.

Attains educational knowledge and competencies that reflects current clinical practice skills. Demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning and is responsible for his/her own professional development and maintenance of knowledge regarding the patient population and assignments.

Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines to include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Performs professionally within their clinical scope of practice skills utilizing State, Federal, and University of Miami’s standards, guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations. Incorporates protocols and standards of care into daily practice.

Accepts and provides focused constructive feedback and guidance with loving kindness in a manner that provides growth and maintains self-esteem.

Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information.

Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed.

Department Specific Functions

The MA 3 position provides advanced clinical and administrative support for the growing needs of the Pediatric Neurology division. The role requires a high level of independence, organization, clinical knowledge, and coordination to manage complex patient needs, support providers, and ensure timely completion of clinical workflows.

• Manage and triage In-Basket messages, including:
• Patient calls and staff messages
• Patient advice and clinical requests
• Prescription/refill requests
• Patient scheduling needs
• Results and follow-up
• Process medical records, forms, and clinical documentation
• Coordinate the Fast Track Clinic, including scheduling and patient coordination
• Manage prior authorizations for medications and imaging
• Obtain, process, and distribute faxes
• Complete scanning and document management
• Provide additional clerical and administrative support to providers and clinical staff
• Coordinate follow-up on patient needs to help prevent delays in care
• Serve as a resource to the team and assist with maintaining efficient departmental workflows
• Support the division's increasing patient volume, access needs, and operational demands

Experience:

Additional certificates of completion:

• Active American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
• HIV & AIDS Certification: Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continue Education (CE) Certification
