Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must be nationally certified as a Medical Assistant (AAMA/AMT/ARMA/NAHP/NHA/NCCT)
  • BLS certification required through American Heart Association
  • Successfully complete Medical Assistant core skills and specialty competencies

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs and report findings to the provider
  • Perform clinical tasks including vital signs, basic procedures, and medication refills per protocol
  • Support care planning and coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to address barriers
  • Educate patients and families, assess health literacy, and evaluate learning effectiveness
  • Promote patient engagement using motivational interviewing and self-management support
  • Precept and mentor new staff or MA students as needed

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Assistant II, you will assume a crucial supportive role, collaborating with the healthcare team and patients/families to identify and meet their comprehensive needs while promoting optimal health, well‑being, and safety.

Every day you will perform a variety of clinical tasks as directed by providers, meticulously maintain accurate chart documentation, participate in professional development, and potentially assist with front office duties, all while contributing to an efficient and patient-focused work environment.

To be successful in this role, you will be a Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT) with a commitment to patient care standards, strong clinical skills, and personal accountability for relationship-based care and our organizational mission. Your dedication to growth within our MA Clinical Ladder is highly valued.

  • Assess patient's physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of medical records & clinical data, and evaluate patient's response and report to responsible provider to ensure optimal patient outcome.
  • Demonstrate competency in a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic interventions including but not limited to vital signs, mini treatments/procedures, prevention services, previsit planning and postvisit follow up, medication refills per protocol for existing treatment plans and ensures patient flow through the clinic is efficient.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of patient plan of care and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team; determine presence/absence of barriers to active participation in the individualized care plan and ability to selfmanage their health conditions, with the purpose of planning patient care and care coordination.
  • Provide patient/family education through assessment of patient/family, health literacy, barriers to learning readiness, needs, and ability, then provide teaching and evaluate effectiveness of teaching; patient engagement.
  • Encourage patient engagement in the healthcare partnership through the use of motivational interviewing, evidencebased selfmanagement support protocols, tools, and teachback methodology.
  • Precepts and mentors new staff or medical assistant students as needed.
Job Requirements
Required
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • BLS through American Heart Association
  • Nationally Certified as a Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant by one of the following: AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NAHP, NHA or NCCT
  • Successful completion of all Medical Assistant Core Skills, as well as additional competencies which are specialty specific, as defined within the Scope of Practice for Medical Assistants
Preferred
  • Completion of Medical Assisting Program/Trade/Technical School
  • Completion of EMT Program/Trade/Technical School
