Job summary

Eastern Iowa Health Center in Cedar Rapids, IA is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant for family medicine or pediatrics. The role is open to full-time or part-time staff, with pay from $20.80 to $34.32 per hour and a possible sign-on bonus of $3,000 for applicants received by 10/27/2026.

You will work with physicians, nurses, and a multidisciplinary team to provide care, perform patient intake, vitals, and EMR data entry using Athena.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • CMA certification or RMA credential from the listed bodies.
  • Previous clinic experience and EMR preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general medical care and select patient care tasks with the care team.
  • Educate patients and families appropriate for age, diagnosis, and understanding.
  • Assist with visits: room patients, take vitals, and enter data in EMR.
  • Maintain exam rooms, organize supplies, and prepare for visits.
  • Perform clinical tests (glucose, HIV, influenza, strep) and label specimens.
  • Observe and report changes in patients' condition.
  • Administer medications per orders, following six rights.
  • Assist with procedures and pre/post-procedural care.
  • Follow infection control and aseptic techniques.
  • Make follow-up calls and triage with RN/Provider as needed.

EIHC is seeking a full‑time or part‑time Certified Medical Assistant dedicated to serving the needs of our community.

SCHEDULE

Monday through Friday, Limited Saturday Rotation

COMPENSATION

$20.80 to $34.32 hourly depending on experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide general medical care and select patient care tasks, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other multidisciplinary team members.
  • Provides individualized education to patients and families appropriate for age, diagnosis, and level of understanding as delegated by the RN or Provider
  • Assists providers with patient office visits, including putting patients in rooms, interviewing patients, recording vital signs and entering information in patient's electronic medical record.
  • Responsible for maintaining exam rooms organized, clean, and stocked with required supplies and equipment for each visit.
  • Performs select clinical tests including, but not limited to; blood glucose, rapid HIV testing, influenza, and strep cultures. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Correctly labels specimens.
  • Observes, records, and reports changes in patients' condition.
  • Administers medications according to orders from a provider, following the six (6) rights of medication administration. Intravenous therapy is excluded.
  • Assists providers with procedures by providing pre and post-procedural care, participating in the Time Out, and intra-procedural support.
  • Follows standard precautions with all patients for proper infection control; correctly follows medical and surgical aseptic technique when indicated.
  • Make follow up calls as requested by the provider. Direct calls requiring assessment to an RN or Provider.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of Medical Assistant program at an accredited institution required.
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Certification (BLS) required.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants or Registered Medical Assistant Credential from American Medical Technologists.
  • Previous experience in a medical clinic preferred.
  • EMR experience preferred.
