Job summary

Medical Associates Plus in Thomson, GA is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support outpatient patient care. You will perform clinical and administrative tasks under provider supervision, contribute to care coordination, and help maintain a safe clinical environment.

The ideal candidate will have a Medical Assistant program and strong knowledge of EHRs, HIPAA, and OSHA guidelines, with an emphasis on compassionate patient care and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required; certification preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred.
  • Training in phlebotomy, EKGs, pharmacology, and diagnostic testing preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year outpatient/primary care/ambulatory care experience preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems and standard office software preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations in a multidisciplinary care team preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers with vital signs, patient histories, and clinical procedures.
  • Administer medications as ordered by a physician or mid-level provider.
  • Perform venipuncture, EKGs, IV starts (as allowed under supervision), and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Document care accurately in the EHR and maintain organized patient records.
  • Provide patient education, discharge instructions, and coordinate referrals and follow-up care.
  • Monitor patients for clinical changes and report concerns to the provider promptly.
  • Maintain medical equipment and ensure exam rooms are stocked; report safety issues.
  • Uphold infection control standards and comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulations.
  • Support quality improvement and customer service initiatives.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, staff, and external contacts.
  • Promote healthcare integration and the Patient-Centered Medical Home concepts.
  • Maintain punctual and reliable attendance to meet department needs.

Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant supports the delivery of patient care in an outpatient setting by performing clinical, administrative, and technical tasks under the supervision of a licensed provider. This role requires initiative, teamwork, and effective communication with healthcare providers, clinical staff, and coworkers. The Certified Medical Assistant provides patient-centered care to individuals across the lifespan, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, clinical protocols, and applicable federal and state regulations. The role supports care coordination, quality improvement initiatives, and promotes a safe and efficient clinical environment.

Qualifications

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and patient care practices in an outpatient setting.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control, OSHA standards, and safe clinical practices.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, patient confidentiality requirements, and healthcare compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, documentation requirements, and clinical workflows.
  • Knowledge of medication administration principles, vaccine protocols, and basic pharmacology.
  • Understanding of patient flow processes, care coordination, and customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement practices and Patient-Centered Medical Home concepts.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required; certification through AAMA, AMT, or NCCT preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred.
  • Additional training in phlebotomy, EKGs, pharmacology, and diagnostic testing preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an outpatient, primary care, or ambulatory care setting preferred.
  • Experience performing clinical skills such as vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, injections, medication administration, and specimen collection preferred.
  • Experience using electronic health record systems and standard office software is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations and collaborating within a multidisciplinary care team preferred

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity required for patient care and equipment use.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 pounds and assist with patient positioning or mobility as needed.
  • Requires visual acuity for reading records, administering medications, and performing clinical tasks.
  • Requires auditory ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Work is performed in a primary care outpatient clinical setting.
  • May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and communicable diseases.
  • May encounter patients who are physically or emotionally distressed.
  • Requires flexibility with occasional extended hours or travel between clinic sites.
