Job summary

Thurston County is seeking a Corrections Deputy to perform inmate processing, security, and transport duties within the county jail. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, WA State corrections certification or equivalent, and ability to obtain certification within 12 months.

The salary ranges from $6,278 to $8,012 per month, with union representation and benefits. Applicants must attach a current corrections officer certification and pass a thorough background, medical, and polygraph

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and the ability to read, write and speak English as required by RCW 41.14.100.
• Must have or obtain WA State Corrections Officer Academy certification or equivalent.
• Must pass background, medical, psychological exams and polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Receive, fingerprint, photograph, book and classify inmates.
• Maintain jail security and inmate welfare; supervise movement and meals.
• Prepare reports, transport inmates to court and other locations.
• Operate surveillance equipment and respond to disturbances and emergencies.
• Attend trainings and shift meetings as required.
