Levels I/II/Senior depend on experience and IV skills, with oncology background preferred. The Pharmacy Admixture Technician performs medication preparation, distribution, record-keeping, and inventory control under supervision, adhering to safety and company standards in a clinic

Qualifications

• Level I requires HS diploma and 0–3 years experience in a pharmacy.
• Level II requires 3–5 years experience in a pharmacy with IV skills.
• Level Senior requires 5–7 years experience in a pharmacy with IV skills; oncology background preferred; ASCP accredited program recommended.

Responsibilities

• Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Check all orders for completeness of information and patient details.
• Verify patient information and physician authorization; check insurance approvals before admixing.
• Admix drugs accurately per department guidelines and OSHA/interoffice guidelines.
• Calculate dosage volumes and convert between metric and apothecary units.
• Maintain drug information, MSDS sheets, and logs; complete inventory control.
• Maintain temperature logs and logs for protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
• Prepare labels, file and prepare billing; order supplies and medications.

This is a full-time Monday – Friday 8:30a-5p position with no call, weekends, or major holidays. This position will be either a level I, II or Senior based on candidate experience.

What does the Pharmacy/Admixture Technician do?

The Pharmacy Admixture Tech, under the direct supervision of a physician or registered pharmacist working within a clinic admixture room or licensed pharmacy, the Admixture Tech /Pharmacy Tech performs technical, non-judgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. The role supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Specific state laws may regulate that only licensed individuals perform compounding or mixing responsibilities; hence, certain incumbents may be prohibited from these tasks.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Checks all orders for completeness of information.
• Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
• Checks all orders for insurance approval before admixing.
• Under a professional's supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
• Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
• Maintains indigent patient drug program as needed.
• Counts controlled drugs weekly and maintain records.
• Maintains current drug information and MSDS sheets.
• Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
• Cleans hood daily as stated in policy and procedures.
• Logs and dates all drugs that are being used.
• Checks drugs monthly for outdates.
• Keeps accurate temperature logs.
• Keeps accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
• Maintains proper control documentation of medications, including lot numbers and all other quality assurance activities.
• Complete inventory control of medications.
• Orders supplies and medications.
• Receives and shelves medications.
• Ensures that standard drug supplies are in adequate supply in all departments.
• Prepares labels.
• Files and prepares billing.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

Level I

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Entry level to three (3) years experience in a pharmacy.
• IV Certification strongly preferred.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.

Level II

• Minimum three (3) to five (5) years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.

Level Senior

• Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills.
• Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience.
• Completion of an ASCP accredited program or community college-based program recommended.
