Job summary

Indoor Science, an Aftermath Services company, seeks a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) to join our Chicagoland team on a full-time basis. You will lead investigations into asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor air quality, design sampling plans, and deliver client-ready reports.

Active CIH strongly preferred; licenses or the ability to obtain them soon after hire. Expect regional travel (50%+) and a base in the Chicagoland area as we tackle high-difficulty projects.

Qualifications

• Active CIH strongly preferred; open to candidates pursuing CIH.
• Illinois Asbestos Inspector and Air Sampling licenses or ability to obtain soon after hire.
• Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational/Environmental Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations for indoor air quality, mold/moisture intrusion, asbestos, and lead across a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
• Design sampling strategies, interpret results, and write clear, client-ready reports.
• Work directly with clients — property owners, facility managers, contractors, and insurers — as a trusted technical advisor.
• Take on unique, one-off projects that require creative problem-solving, not just a checklist.
• Sign off on technical work performed by junior team members.

What We're Looking For

• Active CIH strongly preferred — but if you're actively working toward your CIH (exam scheduled or in progress), we want to hear from you.
• Illinois Asbestos Inspector and Air Sampling licenses, or the ability to obtain them shortly after hire.
• A degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational/Environmental Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.
• Comfort with the consulting side of the work — talking to clients, scoping projects, and building relationships.
• Willingness to travel regionally (50%+) and be based in the Chicagoland area.
