Job summary

Mid Pacific Engineering, Inc. is seeking a California Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG) with geotechnical consulting experience to join our growing team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in geotechnical consulting or a closely related field.
• Strong understanding of subsurface exploration and geotechnical site characterization.
• Experience with soil and/or rock logging and interpretation of geotechnical field and laboratory data.
• Experience preparing or contributing to geotechnical or engineering-geologic reports.
• Ability to read and interpret geotechnical, civil, and grading plans.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and professional judgment.
• Valid California driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in geotechnical and geologic investigations for residential subdivisions, commercial and industrial developments, public works, and other land development projects.
• Perform site reconnaissance, subsurface exploration, geologic mapping, soil and rock logging, test pit observations, and other field investigations.
• Interpret subsurface and geologic conditions and translate field and laboratory data into practical project recommendations.
• Prepare and contribute to geotechnical and engineering-geologic reports, including site characterization and evaluations of grading, foundations, slopes, seismic hazards, expansive or collapsible soils, and other geologic conditions.
• Provide geologic support during construction, including grading and excavation observations and evaluation of conditions that differ from those anticipated during design.
• Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and other technical documents and communicate findings to project teams.
• Work closely with geotechnical engineers, construction materials testing personnel, special inspectors, contractors, and clients to support projects from investigation through construction.
• Participate in project and client meetings and help develop scopes, schedules, and budgets as your project responsibilities grow.
• Provide technical guidance to junior staff and field personnel.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of development and infrastructure projects while taking a hands‑on role in subsurface investigations, geologic interpretation, technical reporting, and construction‑phase services. The successful candidate will be involved in geotechnical investigations, subsurface exploration, geological interpretation, technical reporting, field observations, and coordination with engineers, project managers, contractors, and clients.
