Job summary

Memphis Business Academy Middle in Memphis, TN is seeking a full-time teacher to develop and execute standards-aligned curricula, assess student progress, and continuously improve instructional practices. You will collaborate with the Principal and network admins to deliver high-quality instruction and manage data-driven instruction with timely input of student performance data.

Responsibilities

• Create standards-aligned curriculum including maps, unit and lesson plans with assessments.
• Develop and implement ambitious lessons targeting student performance at or above grade level.
• Provide engaging, rigorous instruction in whole-class and small-group settings.
• Attend PLC meetings and professional development sessions.
• Enter student performance data timely and use feedback for improvement.
• Collaborate with staff on instructional needs and participate in school activities.

Job description

Position Overview

Teachers are entrusted with advancing the mission of Memphis Business Academy. Reporting to the Principal and various network administrators, teachers are responsible for the development and execution of a standards-aligned curriculum, continuous improvement of their instructional practices based on feedback, support, and adequate intellectual preparation on their part, and collaboration on areas of instructional and/or curricular need at the school. Teachers will be held accountable by the Principal, Chief Academic Officers and other network administrators in regard to their performance and growth, student achievement, and quality of delivery of instruction. The Teacher is a full-time position with an immediate start date.

Essential Functions

Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment

• Create standards-aligned curriculum including curriculum maps, unit plans, and lesson plans; develop interim, midterm, and final assessments as needed
• Develop and implement ambitious, standards-aligned lesson plans targeted with end goal of student performance at or above grade level expectations
• Provide engaging, motivating, and rigorous instruction in whole-class and individual settings
• Attend all Professional Learning Community Meetings and professional development sessions
• Provide academic support and tutoring to small groups or individual students as needed
• Work to continuously improve effectiveness in all instructional practices, using school’s teacher performance evaluation rubric as a guide
• Use feedback to make productive changes in performance

Administrative

• Analyze student achievement data in collaboration with the academic team
• Implement data tracking system and use data to inform instructional development and delivery
• Enter in student performance data in a timely manner
• Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines

Culture

• Teach and enforce school-wide systems, rules and consequences, disciplinary codes, and rewards at all times
• Communicate regularly and proactively with students and families
• Collaborate with other staff members and actively participate in all professional development and learning activities
• Participate in additional activities including field trips, monitoring of designated sporting events, and other required programs as needed throughout year
• Report to work daily with a positive and solutions oriented attitude and demeanor

Education and Certification

• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree (preferred)
• Tennessee Professional Educator License (required)
• Eligibility for Tennessee Professional Educator License (required)
• Content area certification (preferred)

Experience and Skills

• Technological proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Excellent communication skills
• High level of personal organization and planning
• Minimum of one year working in urban education with a history of significant gains in student performance and/or growth (preferred)
• Bi‑Lingual (desired)
• Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities, including those with low skill level in a heterogeneously grouped classroom setting
