Job summary

Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains, MO seeks an inpatient coder to review hospital records and assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, determine DRGs for reimbursement, and support accurate coding guidelines.

The role requires 3–5 years inpatient coding in acute care, RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P credentials, 45 wpm typing, and a high school diploma (associates degree preferred).

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting.
• Active CCS required. RHIA, RHIT or CCS-P certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review hospital records thoroughly and assign ICD-10-CM codes for diagnoses and ICD-10-PCS for procedures.
• Determine DRG and sequence for hospital reimbursement; send queries to providers/ CDI team for clarification.

Job description

Inpatient coder will review complete hospital-stay medical records thoroughly, including physician notes, operative reports, lab results, and discharge summary and accurately assign ICD-10-CM codes for principal and secondary diagnoses, complications, and comorbidities, assign ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient surgical and medical procedures, DRG assignment by determining and sequencing for hospital reimbursement. Responsible for sending queries to providers/CDI team for clarification while maintaining high coding accuracy in accordance to coding guidelines.

Requirements

• Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required.
• Minimum of 3-5years previous inpatient coding experience in an acute care setting a must.
• Certification as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P required.
• Keyboard/typing, minimum 45 wpm
• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Active CCS required. This is for an inpatient coding position and must have experience to be considered, not entry level position.

Associates Degree preferred,3-5 yearsexperiencein inpatient coding a must.
