Job summary

Shriners Children’s is seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer to provide on-site assessment and management of injuries at our facilities. You will supervise rehabilitation, develop home exercise programs, and educate athletes on injury prevention.

Under physician supervision, you will coordinate care with physical therapy and other providers, participate in SMARTS workgroup activities, and support program development within Sports Medicine across SHC locations.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Athletic Training or Health related fields.
  • Current Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer License in state of practice.
  • Current First Aid CPR/AED Certification required (BLS from American Heart Association).

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site assessment and management of athletic injuries.
  • Coordinate with physicians, physical therapy, and other providers for rehabilitation and return-to-play planning.
  • Educate athletes on injury prevention, conditioning activities, and home exercise programs.
  • Support SMARTS testing coordination and MD evaluation for clearance.
  • Assist in strategic development and cross-site collaboration within Sports Medicine.

Job Description

The Athletic Trainer (Certified) is responsible for providing on-site assessment, and management of injuries (both acute and chronic) to assigned facility athletes. CATC will provide appropriate immediate treatment to athletes and provide appropriate referral to outside providers. Treatment may include rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletes as they progress in their treatment plans. CATC may be required to develop training programs and educate local athletes on injury prevention, conditioning activities and injury treatment

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinic preparation, including sports intake, PROs, SMARTS, PT notes, confirmation of imaging.
  • Work in clinic under the direction of their supervising physician/team rooming patients, history taking, orthopedic evaluation, providing home exercise programs, taping, brace fitting, and patient education and other clinical or administrative duties as assigned.
  • In clinic training for pre- and immediate post-op patients: Crutch training and education of home exercise program.
  • Provide medical care to athletes, including evaluations & diagnosis, acute care, treatment, and consult in rehabilitation sessions as needed, including return to sport testing.
  • Coordination of physical therapy, both in house and in the community, with the ability to be the communication liaison.
  • Actively participate in the SMARTS workgroup as well as coordinate SMARTS testing, results, and MD evaluation for clearance.
  • Provide clinical and administrative support to Sports Medicine physicians when needed.
  • Provide input on strategic planning for Sports Medicine Program development.
  • Communicate with other athletic trainers in the Shriners system to promote collaboration and advancement of Sports Medicine across the system.
  • Promote and teach sports safety; participate in sports-related community SHC public relations events.
  • Act as liaison between community athletic trainers or other healthcare providers to support patient access opportunities and continuity of care.
  • Provide community outreach athletic training services in schools or other non-clinical settings.
  • Provide supervision and education of athletic training students from approved athletic training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Athletic Training or Health related fields
  • Current Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer License in state of practice.
  • Current First Aid CPR/AED Certification required (BLS from American Heart Association).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years athletic training experience, preferred
  • Additional relevant certification (CSCS, CNS, LMT, etc.), preferred
  • BLS Instructor certification, preferred.
Pay Range

The pay range for this position is $32.40 - $48.60/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
