Responsibilities

  • Implements and executes established patient treatment plans under the supervision of a therapist.
  • Communicates with patients, families, referring physicians, and other members of the team.
  • Provides timely written documentation per facility and department requirements.
  • Develops and enhances clinical and professional skills through knowledge and professional associations.
  • Communicates treatment variations to patients, families and other clinical staff.
  • Provides timely written documentation required by insurance providers to meet licensing, certification, regulatory, reimbursement requirements and physician treatment plans.
  • Supports and participates in department operations and development.
  • Reports any changes in patient status or needs to supervising therapist in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and submits patient charges accurately for billing.
  • Provides patient screens upon admission, identifying appropriate interventions.
  • Uses professional judgment to ensure safety of self, patients, and others at all times.
  • Achieves quality patient care through interdisciplinary co‑operation, teamwork, and effective communication.
  • Attends required meetings as designated by the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Communicates with therapists regarding patient responses to treatment plans and provides constructive feedback to rehab techs.
  • Attends in‑services, training sessions, or other educational presentations.
  • Coordinates treatment goals with other team members.
  • Maintains valid licensure, certification, or equivalent as requested by the appropriate state agency.

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Responsibilities

Assist in providing appropriate aspects of quality patient care under the supervision of licensed therapists. Responsible to Occupational Therapist and Facility Rehab Director.

Physical Capacities
  • Move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Use prosthetics if necessary to see and hear adequately.
  • Meet general health requirements, including annual TB screening and physical examination.
  • Lift and move up to 100 pounds with assistance according to resident’s abilities.
  • Sit and walk for extended periods.
  • Travel to assigned destinations within a reasonable time frame.
  • Bend, squat, push, stoop, and pull as needed in resident care activities.
  • Coping with mental and emotional stress of the position.
Environmental Conditions

Work inside normal temperatures, occasional noise, fumes, odors, and chemical exposure with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens. This job requires dealing with stresses associated with an intimate, 24‑hour skilled care environment for disabled and cognitively impaired residents, including emergency health or safety responses, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired resident behavior, family reactions, death and dying, oversight by state surveyors, ombudsmen, federal officials, consultants, attorneys, and involvement of medical staff.

HIPAA and Mandated Reporting

HIPAA compliance is mandatory. The assistant must report suspected elder abuse and may handle Protected Health Information (PHI).

Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant curriculum and in good standing with all regulatory agencies and licensing boards. Working knowledge of Medicare and other payor sources.
  • License: Current, active license as Physical Therapist, able to practice unencumbered.
  • CPR Certification: Required for license renewal.
  • Work Experience: Experience in long‑term care preferred; able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Language Skills: Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information; communicate verbally in English clearly.
  • Mathematical Skills: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of weight and volume measurements.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional customer service and empathy, professional presentation, and effective communication with patients, families, staff, and outside resources.
