Job summary

Doncasters in Oxford, Alabama is seeking a Ceramic Core Engineer to serve as the primary technical authority for non-metallic materials and manufacturing processes used to produce precision internal cooling passages and hollow features in aerospace investment castings.

You will lead development of a green field core manufacturing operation, drive material development, forming, heat treatment and finishing, and collaborate with wax and casting teams to ensure high yields, fixed process adherence,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on engineering experience in ceramics processing, injection molding, or an investment casting foundry.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software like Minitab or Excel for SPC.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing methods & protocols.
  • Familiarity with dimensional inspection equipment, tooling design & operation, and GD&T.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a “green field” core manufacturing operation from material development through forming and thermal processing to finishing and strengthening.
  • Manage optimization of ceramic core manufacturing yields while ensuring fixed process adherence and process control.
  • Identify and solve structural or dimensional defects to secure a stable flow of high-quality components to downstream wax and casting operations.

The working hours/salary for this role are Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM with some flexibility.

The Role

The Ceramic Core Engineer serves as the primary technical authority for non-metallic materials and manufacturing processes used to produce precision internal cooling passages and hollow features in aerospace investment castings. Located on-site at our Oxford, Alabama, aerospace casting facility, this wide-reaching role connects advanced material science and high-volume manufacturing. The engineer is responsible for developing a “green field” core manufacturing operation, from core body material development through forming and thermal processing to finishing and strengthening. During development and production, the engineer manages optimizing ceramic core manufacturing yields, ensuring fixed process adherence & process control, and solving structural or dimensional defects to secure a stable product flow of high-quality components to the downstream wax and casting operations. This position reports to the facility engineering manager / director.

Interested?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on engineering experience in materials (preferably ceramics) processing, injection molding, or an investment casting foundry.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software like Minitab or Excel for Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing methods & protocols.
  • Familiarity with dimensional inspection equipment, tooling design & operation, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
