Job summary

US Eye is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant in Mount Pleasant, SC. You will work with ophthalmologists and optometrists to perform eye-related clinical tasks, take histories, and assist in exams. This role emphasizes patient care, empathy, and teamwork within a professional surgical practice.

Full-time position based in Mt. Pleasant with travel to other clinic locations. Prior medical field experience is preferred; High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide patient care.

  • Measure visual acuity and document results.
  • Take and document patients' medical histories and medications.
  • Instruct patients on care and use of contact lenses.

Essential Job Functions:
  • An Ophthalmic Assistant works with ophthalmologists and optometrists to provide patient care by performing a range of eye‑related clinical functions.
  • Ophthalmic Assistants help care for patients by taking histories, performing various procedures and tests, and preparing patients to see the doctor.
  • Their work provides the ophthalmologists and optometrists with important information to help diagnose and treat patients.
  • Assist and provide patients with excellent customer service and any necessary information regarding treatment
  • Conduct tonometry tests to measure intraocular pressure
  • Measure visual acuity.
  • Take and document patients' medical histories.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
  • Conduct visual field tests to measure field of vision.
  • Instruct patients in the care and use of contact lenses.
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to learn and apply complex concepts to their daily work.
  • Ability to develop strong connections with our patients, communicating with warmth and empathy.
  • Team‑oriented individual who finds fulfillment in helping and supporting others.
  • Motivated and resilient individual who is on a path to grow a meaningful medical career within a successful surgical practice.
Education and Experience:
  • Experience within a professional environment with a strong customer service focus
  • Previous experience within the medical field (preferred)
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience in Optometry or Ophthalmology a plus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full‑time position located in Mt. Pleasant, SC
  • Travel to other clinic locations is required.
