Job summary

HDR is seeking an Area Sustainability & Resiliency Business Class Leader in Austin to guide sustainable design and climate-related consulting for built environments. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams and drive project delivery with quality and impact.

Role involves energy/environmental analyses, marketing contributions, thought leadership, conference participation, and staff development. HDR promotes an employee-owned culture and collaboration across service lines and disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.
  • 10 years of experience in sustainability, architecture or engineering.
  • Committed to quality, HDR values.
  • Professional or engineering registration maintained.
  • Experience managing diverse teams.
  • Collaborates with leaders across area operations, marketing, PM.
  • Active participant in HDR employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sustainable/climate-related consulting and certifications.
  • Conduct energy and environmental analyses for planning and design projects.
  • Support marketing pursuits, technical reviews, and staff education.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and public outreach.
  • Speak at conferences and publish papers.
  • Coordinate area staff and monitor technical competencies.
  • Deliver project services to meet client expectations.
  • Collaborate with operations, marketing and project management.
  • Participate in practice groups to improve standards.
  • Engage in strategic planning and budgeting.

In the role of Area Sustainability & Resiliency Business Class Leader, we’ll count on you to:



  • Provide sustainable and/or climate‑related consulting and certification services on a variety of projects related to the built environment

  • Conduct energy and environmental analysis for planning, architecture, interiors, and consulting projects that may result in third‑party sustainable certification

  • Contribute to marketing pursuits, technical project reviews, narrative writing, and staff education as a sustainable design expert

  • Incorporate thought leadership and public outreach within the design and sustainable industry

  • Speak at conferences, publish papers, and get involved in strategic industry professional organizations

  • Take responsibility for area coordination, monitoring, and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers, all within direction and goals of business class plans

  • Participate in delivery of project services to meet client expectations

  • Collaborate on business class efforts with area operations, marketing and project management

  • Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews

  • Participate in business class strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementation

  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications


  • LEED, TRUE, or Envision Certified Professional

  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field

  • 10 years of experience

  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values

  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams

  • Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts

  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
