Job Requirements
Join University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in Largo, MD as a Central Sterile Processing Supervisor. This role provides day-to-day leadership and operational oversight of the Central Sterile Processing Department, ensuring instruments, equipment, and supplies are safely decontaminated, processed, sterilized, assembled, and available to support patient care. The ideal candidate brings strong sterile processing expertise, hands-on leadership experience, and the ability to coach staff, manage workflow, maintain quality standards, and support efficient department operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily Central Sterile Processing operations, staff assignments, workload, and department priorities.
- Oversee decontamination, cleaning, processing, sterilization, packaging, and preparation of instruments, supplies, and equipment in accordance with infection control and safety standards.
- Monitor sterilization processes, including biological and chemical testing, autoclave operation, sterility requirements, and required documentation.
- Ensure proper tray assembly, instrument processing, and timely distribution of sterile instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, workflow planning, time and attendance, and daily department coverage.
- Maintain appropriate inventory and par levels while supporting cost-effective utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Train, coach, mentor, and support staff development, orientation, competencies, and ongoing education.
- Support department quality and performance improvement initiatives and assist in resolving operational concerns.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, safety standards, and Central Sterile Processing best practices.
- Serve as a department resource and assume responsibility for department operations in the manager's absence.
- Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to support efficient workflow and exceptional service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, And Licensure
- CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or Certified Surgical Technologist certification, required.
- CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader), preferred.
- 3–5 years of applicable Central Sterile Processing experience, required.
- Leadership, supervisory, or equivalent management experience within Central Sterile Processing strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example, provide staff direction, and promote accountability.
- Knowledge of sterilization practices, infection control, regulatory standards, inventory management, and quality improvement.
- College degree or equivalent experience and/or training.

SCHEDULE: Full-Time | Day Shift | Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. | Rotating Weekends Required

Compensation
- Pay Range: $31.78 - $44.50 per hour.
