Job summary

Gallaudet University seeks a First Class Engineer to support the Central Utility Plant operations. The role covers repairing boilers, chillers, and control systems, and ensuring reliable plant performance.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Central Plant, you will perform preventive maintenance, keep work areas clean, and uphold strict safety practices while collaborating with university departments. A First Class Engineer’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum three years of experience with central plant, control systems, or a related field.
• First Class Engineer’s license.
• Preferred: Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
• Experience in a higher education setting.

Responsibilities

• Make repairs on plant equipment including boilers, chillers, and distribution systems.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and repairs of plant equipment and distribution systems.
• Keep equipment, work areas and plants clean and safe; maintain orderly tools and supplies.
• Work in confined spaces such as boilers, chillers, tunnels, tanks and manholes.
• Follow safety regulations and report emergencies; participate in Title IX training and compliance.
