Job summary

capcainc is seeking a friendly and dependable Food Service Assistant / Teacher Aide for our Early Childhood program in Beebe, AR. The role supports children’s growth by serving meals, assisting in classrooms, and maintaining a clean, safe facility.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, at least three months in food service, ability to pass TB screening, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel for training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three months experience in food service.
  • Tuberculosis screening annually and initial health examination within first three months.
  • Valid driver’s license and transportation with liability insurance; willing to travel for agency training.
  • Able to hear and communicate orally with children and adults.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and operate kitchen equipment safely.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating a warm environment that supports children’s growth.
  • Maintain a professional attitude with staff, parents, volunteers, and children.
  • Assist in daily meal preparation and serving, including infant food preparation.
  • Daily cleaning of the facility: dishes, vacuuming, floors, trash, laundry, and bathrooms.
  • Keep kitchen area clean, organized, and sanitary; clean refrigerator/freezer weekly.
  • Assist the Food Service Manager with daily food prep and nutrition documentation.
  • Transport food to designated sites.

STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Under the overall supervision of the Early Childhood Director and the direct supervision of the Center Manager. Perform duties related to food service and maintaining a clean facility and playground. Work as a teacher aide in classrooms when needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Assist in creating a warm and welcoming environment that supports children’s growth and development.
  2. Maintain a professional attitude with staff, parents, volunteers, and children at all times.
  3. Assist in the daily preparation and serving of breakfast, snacks and/or lunches including preparation of infant food and formula in the Migrant & Seasonal programs.
  4. Responsible for daily cleaning of the building, including, but not limited to:
  • clean-up of dishes and utensils,
  • vacuum all carpeted / rug areas, spot clean as needed,
  • clean all tile floors,
  • take trash out and wash garbage cans,
  • laundry,
  • clean children’s and staff bathrooms.
  1. Assist in keeping the kitchen area clean, organized and sanitary, including proper storage of food and supplies. Thoroughly clean the refrigerator and freezer at least weekly.
  2. Assist and serve as a backup for the Food Service Manager in daily food preparation.
  3. Assist Food Service Manager in preparing documentation relating to nutrition.
  4. Assist with transporting food to designated sites.
  5. Responsible for wearing "Non-skid footwear" while working in the kitchen. Cut-sensitive gloves must be worn when using cutting tools, knives, etc. in the kitchen.
  6. Assist in obtaining and documenting In-Kind (Non-Federal Match) for parent and community activities.
  7. Work cooperatively with all classroom / center staff.
  8. Responsible for data management in designated areas.
  9. Assist in the avoidance or appearance of fraud and insurance of compliance in designated areas.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Respect confidentiality in all aspects of the Program.
  2. Must be willing to participate in all training designed for professional development.
  3. Able to handle stress, tension and exasperation that contact with many children and adults may bring every day.
  4. May be called upon to administer first aid to children or staff at any time in the program. The incidental nature of this circumstance effectively establishes first aid as a collateral duty, rather than a primary one.
  5. Perform other job-related duties as necessary for the overall operation of the program.
Requirements

  1. Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to pass tuberculosis screening annually and initial health examination within first three months of employment.
  • Valid driver's license, access to transportation with liability insurance and willing to use vehicle for Agency related travel.
  • Must be able to travel out of area overnight to attend training.
  • Able to hear and communicate orally with children and adults.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift filled food service containers and have the physical ability necessary to clean the facility.

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.

  • Be in sympathy with the concepts of the Head Start Program.
  • Able to keep confidential information without inappropriately divulging it.
  • Able to make decisions and work without continual close supervision.
