Job summary

Apple Inc. in Sunnyvale, California, seeks a Cellular Software Architect/Developer to advance 4G/5G protocol simulations and contribute to cross-functional teams delivering world‑class wireless technologies.

You will design and maintain network simulations, implement protocol functionality from 3GPP releases, and collaborate with engineers to translate theory into scalable software for next‑gen connectivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of 4G/5G protocol stack and procedures, especially in RRC, MAC, and PHY layers.
• Working knowledge of implementing test basestation and RAN/CN network emulators (Keysight, R&S, Anritsu, Anite, etc.).
• Excellent software development and debugging skills, including design, programming (C, C++, scripting).

Description

This role requires critical expertise in multiple layers of cellular protocols. Experience with UE and/or network protocol development for 4G/5G technologies is essential. The candidate must demonstrate a solid understanding of relevant protocol procedures and network interactions. The duties of this position will include designing, developing, and maintaining network simulations. The candidate will need to understand the 4G/5G protocol functionality in the respective 3GPP releases and convert that knowledge into corresponding protocol implementations and interfaces in the cellular network simulation system domain.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent degree.
• Excellent knowledge of 4G/5G protocol stack and procedures, especially in RRC, MAC, and PHY layers.
• Working knowledge of implementing test basestation and RAN/CN network emulators (Keysight, R&S, Anritsu, Anite, etc.).
• Excellent software development and debugging skills, including design, programming (C, C++, scripting).

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong experience in shell scripting and Python.
• Strong experience in cellular protocol stack host test or simulation environment development is key.
• Experience in test case scripting and debugging regression test suites conforming to relevant ETSI/3GPP protocol technical specifications is a big plus.
• GenAI design and coding experience is a plus.
• Standard software development & tool environments is a plus.
• Highly motivated and self-directed, fast learner, a good team player.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $324,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
