Job summary

The Shipley School seeks a private-music-lesson instructor for cello. This on-campus position will involve teaching weekly cello lessons as a private instruction provider, directly employed by families who arrange lessons of 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

The instructor will schedule lessons on campus and coordinate with music ensemble directors as needed. Qualified candidates hold at least a bachelor's degree in cello performance or music education with cello as the primary focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in cello performance or music education required.
• Experience teaching private cello lessons preferred.
• Ability to coordinate with ensemble directors and school staff.

Responsibilities

• Introduce and develop cello technique through weekly repertoire.
• Schedule and teach weekly lessons on campus in their area of expertise.
• Communicate clearly, timely, and respectfully with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Submit lesson timesheets by the first of each month to the Private Lesson Coordinator.
• Introduce and demonstrate instrument(s) in coordination with music ensemble directors as needed.
• Coordinate developmentally appropriate performance opportunities for students on and/or off campus.
• Help students manage and record progress over time.
• Stay current with teaching trends, best practices, and knowledge of the performance repertoire.
• Encourage students to participate in extracurricular musical offerings in our region, including but not limited to: performing ensembles, recitals, workshops, summer festivals, all-state festivals and competitions when and where appropriate.
• Enjoy working with young musicians, help build excitement around participation in making, and have a good sense of humor.

This person will join our list of private music teachers and will be employed directly by parents. Private lesson instructors are paid by families and typically schedule 30, 45, or 60-minute lessons.

• Schedule and teach weekly lessons on campus in their area of expertise.
• Communicate clearly, timely, and respectfully with students, parents, and colleagues.
