Role Description

The Cello Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality cello instruction to students of varying ages and skill levels in a supportive, encouraging environment. Day-to-day tasks include planning and delivering individual and group lessons, teaching fundamental and advanced cello techniques, integrating appropriate music theory, and adapting teaching methods to diverse learning styles. The role includes preparing students for recitals or performances, maintaining clear communication with families and caregivers, and collaborating with other instructors to support academy-wide programs. This is a part-time, on-site role based in Fairfax, VA, requiring regular in-person teaching hours at the academy.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong skills in Cello and Music Performance, with the ability to demonstrate technique and musicality clearly.


• Candidates should possess skills in Music Education and Music Theory, including creating age-appropriate lesson plans and explaining core concepts accessibly.


• Candidates should possess skills related to Piano Education as a bonus, supporting students who may study multiple instruments or need basic piano for theory work.


• Formal training in music (degree, conservatory, or equivalent professional experience) is highly beneficial.


• Experience teaching children and adults in private or group settings, with patient, inclusive, and trauma-informed practices preferred.


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, reliability in scheduling, and a commitment to creating a nurturing, encouraging learning space.
