Job summary

Gresham Smith, a leading design and engineering firm, is seeking a CEI Inspector in Atlanta to support roadway and infrastructure projects. You will observe construction activities, prepare daily inspection reports, and ensure compliance with plans, specs, and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with 1 year of construction experience or completion of a 4-year engineering program
  • Experience on GDOT or municipal roadway projects with daily records and reports preferred
  • Certifications such as GDOT WECS, GDOT Field Concrete Technician, and GSWCC Level 1a may be required after hire

Responsibilities

  • Observe and inspect construction work and prepare daily inspection reports and constructability reviews
  • Oversee daily construction activities including earthwork, erosion control, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation
  • Ensure progress aligns with plans and contract documents by reviewing plans and analyzing shop drawings
  • Maintain daily job logs and report deviations from plans to management
  • Assist with submittals, RFIs, and related tasks
  • Coordinate with contractors, client personnel, and other stakeholders regarding inspection activities
  • Advise on non-compliance or contract violations and help implement corrective actions
  • Verify highway work zones and traffic control setups meet contract requirements
  • Assist in contractor evaluations and perform other duties as assigned
  • Use inspection tools and computer systems for accurate data collection and reporting

About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A high school diploma (GED) and 1 year of construction experience, or completion of a 4-year engineering technology or engineering program
  • Preferably experience on GDOT or municipal roadway projects requiring daily records and reports on asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, structural work, and erosion control
  • Certifications such as GDOT WECS, GDOT Field Concrete Technician, and GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control); may be required to participate in certification and training courses post-hire including OSHA, GDOT, or client-specific required training
  • Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
  • Ability to recognize, document, and escalati field issues
  • Competence in computer use for data entry and reporting
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently
  • Effective listening and communication skills, both verbal and written, including good English language knowledge, grammar, composition, and spelling
  • Physical ability to frequently sit, use hands to operate tools or equipment, talk, see, hear, reach with hands and arms, walk, stand, and stoop; frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally more—reasonable accommodations may be made to support individuals with disabilities

About the Role

As aCEI Inspector, you will:

  • Observe and inspect construction work and prepare daily inspection reports and constructability reviews
  • Oversee daily construction activities including earthwork, erosion control, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation
  • Ensure construction progress aligns with specifications and contract documents by reviewing plans and analyzing moderate complexity shop drawings
  • Maintain daily job logs and report deviations from plans to management promptly
  • Participate in reviewing submittals, assisting with Requests for Information (RFIs), and other related tasks
  • Coordinate with contractors, client personnel, and other stakeholders regarding inspection activities
  • Advise contractors on non-compliance or contract violations and collaborate on corrective actions
  • Verify that highway work zones and traffic control setups meet contract requirements
  • Assist in contractor evaluations and perform other duties as assigned
  • Use or learn necessary inspection tools and computer systems for accurate data collection and reporting
