Teachers provide instruction, mentorship, and academic support to students who are fully enrolled in BYU Online High School as their accredited high school. Faculty teach in both flexible on-demand courses and semester-based live online classes, including synchronous Zoom instruction, teacher office hours, and ongoing student engagement opportunities. Teachers work closely with students in a comprehensive online school environment that includes counseling services, student activities, AP and concurrent enrollment options, and a strong virtual learning community. Graduates earn an accredited BYU Online High School diploma. Teachers who work at Independent Study support students who are enrolled in their local high school but choose to take a BYU Independent Study course to supplement their education or to gain additional flexibility in earning credits toward graduation. Students may begin a self-paced course at any time and progress through the material on their own schedule, while receiving support from their teacher through office hours and email. Although BYU Independent Study does not award high school diplomas, we are fully accredited, and the credits students earn can be applied toward graduation at their own high school. Counselors and instructors at CE Events mentor, teach, and inspire youth and adults as they pursue lifelong learning through BYU-sponsored programs. Programs include BYU Education Week, BYU Youth Programs, BYU Expeditions, BYU Test Prep, academic and professional conferences, and more. ELC teachers provide instruction to students enrolled in non-credit bearing English language courses at the BYU English Language Center. All ELC classes are in-person on campus. Instructors are expected to teach Monday to Thursday. In addition to teaching face-to-face classes, ELC instructors provide office hours, design their courses, plan lessons, and grade all student coursework. The ELC is a lab school for the BYU Linguistics department, so instructors are often expected to mentor student teachers, be observed and observe others, and support research as indicated by administrators. ELC students are non-matriculated BYU students seeking to improve their English for academic, professional, and personal goals.
