Job summary

The Colorado Department of Corrections is seeking a Policy Coordinator at Limon Correctional Facility to advance facility policies and compliance with state and federal standards.

You will lead policy reviews, draft ARs/OMs, coordinate with staff and stakeholders, and perform inspections to ensure safety and regulatory adherence.

Qualifications

  • Six years of relevant experience OR combination of education and experience totaling six years.
  • Ability to analyze operating methods, procedures, policies, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to draft, review, and develop policy documentation.
  • Ability to interpret complex rules and apply them to situations.
  • Experience creating and presenting policy materials to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Set policy committee reviews, publish drafts and final documents.
  • Manage IA’s and OM’s by reviewing and revising for compliance.
  • Update IA’s, OM’s and AR’s and communicate to staff and inmates.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with stakeholders and resolve issues.
  • Recommend action plans or policy updates to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct regular inspections to verify policy adherence.
  • Audit facilities to determine adherence to standards and laws.
  • Conduct monthly inspections for sanitation and tool control practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Primary job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Function as the facility policy coordinator by setting policy committee reviews, publishing and distributing drafts and final documents.
  • Manage facility implementation adjustments (IA’s) and operational memorandums (OM’s) by reviewing, revising and recommending changes to the administrative head to ensure compliance with departmental standards and regulations, and applicable State and federal laws.
  • Ensure updates to facility IA’s, OM’s, and administrative regulations (AR’s) are effectively communicated to the facility employees and the incarcerated population.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with stakeholders by exchanging information and assisting with resolving issues with AR’s, standards and procedures.
  • Continually keeps the administrative head apprised of issues as it relates to policies, procedures, standards and AR’s. Will make recommendations for plans of action or policy updates to ensure adherence to compliance standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of their assigned facility to validate adherence to compliance standards. This is accomplished by collecting, evaluating, and validating the information received from work units as well as visually verifying the practice in the work units matches the applicable policies.
  • Audit correctional facilities in person through Internal Compliance Audits to determine adherence to compliance standards, AR’s, IA’s and applicable laws.
  • Conduct monthly inspections throughout all areas of the facility to ensure sanitation, chemical control and tool control practices are being followed in accordance with policy and compliance standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Employees who are rehired or reinstated within six months of their separation will return at either their previous pay rate if hired into the same class level or based on their time in the class series, whichever is higher.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Six (6) years of relevant experience in analyzing operating methods, procedures, policies and preparing reports; or managing and coordinating an accreditation, auditing, life safety and/or correctional program(s). (any work experience less than full time will be prorated)

-OR-

A combination of education and relevant experience as listed above equal to six (6) years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience within a State of Colorado classified position;
  • Experience in a correctional environment;
  • Experience with policy drafting, review, recommendations, and development for governmental, correctional, and/or organizational entity;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications working in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State guidelines to ensure compliance with policy development;
  • Experience interpreting complex rules, regulations, and standards and applying the knowledge to specific situations;
  • Experience creating, gathering, or interpreting agency accreditation file documentation;
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations and training staff;
  • Experience as an auditor.
