Job summary

Federal Express Corporation in Ashland, VA seeks a yard switcher to move trailers between the yard, doors, and staging areas, and to assist with loading, unloading and sorting packages by hand in a safe, efficient manner.

Responsibilities include trailer switching, coordinating movements with management, documenting actions, and performing pre- and post-trip inspections of equipment. EEO employer; CDL preferred; DOT file required.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• CDL (Class A) to operate in interstate commerce is required.
• Ability to follow work duties and safety instructions.
• Ability to discern numbers to sort packages correctly.
• Ability to use basic yard tools and equipment like skate wheels, carts and scanners.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs trailer switches moving parked trailers yard to doors or doors to yard.
• Coordinates trailer movements with management or central control.
• Documents trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Performs pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Adheres to yard switching safety processes and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
