Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate a dump truck or road tractor to haul supplies per daily assignment.
  • Check mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment.
  • Maneuver trucks to loading/unloading positions following signals.
  • Collect delivery instructions and verify routes.
  • Maintain logs of hours or vehicle service per regulations.
  • Report defects, accidents, violations, or damage.
  • Secure cargo using ropes, chains, binders or covers.
  • Drive to weigh stations and document weights per regulations.
  • Transport products with trucks over three tons including tractor-trailers.
  • Inventory and inspect goods for quantity/condition.
  • Exchange information with bases or other drivers.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance (oil, fuel, radiator fluid).
  • Fold/unfold mud flaps when dumping.
  • Check trailers after unloading for damage.
  • Couple/uncouple trailers and manage pins/air lines.
  • Check load-related documents for completeness.
  • Read maps to determine routes.
  • Load/unload trucks and operate loading equipment.
  • Remove debris from loaded trailers.
  • Company reserves the right to add/change duties.

Job Summary

  • Operates a dump truck or road tractor to haul supplies as applicable to daily job assignment per truck supervisor.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Checks vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Collects delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
  • Maintains logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  • Secures cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
  • Drives trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes to document weights and to comply with state regulations.
  • Drives trucks with capacities greater than three tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products or other materials.
  • Inventories and inspects goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
  • Operates equipment to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
  • Performs basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, radiator fluid or performing minor repairs.
  • Responsible for folding up and unfolding mud flaps when dumping.
  • Checks conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
  • Couples or uncouples trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Checks all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
  • Reads and interprets maps to determine vehicle routes.
  • Loads and unloads trucks, or helps others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.
  • Removes debris from loaded trailers.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Successful completion of professional truck driving school
  • Preferred Experience: Minimum of 12 months of experience as a truck driver
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid Commercial Drivers' License Class A or B
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and random drug screens.
