Job summary

FedEx is seeking a yard switcher to move trailers in the yard, at doors, and between the yard and loading areas. You will coordinate trailer movements, document movements, and perform safety inspections.

Minimum six months experience preferred, CDL Class A, and ability to operate yard equipment. The role involves hot/cold environments and potential loud noise, with evening hours work. Starts at $25.00–$28.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL - Class A) to operate in interstate commerce is required
• Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information in order to sort packages correctly
• Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

• Moves trailers by hooking and moving parked trailers between yard, doors, and yard.
• Coordinates trailer movements with management or central control.
• Documents trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Adheres to yard switching safety processes and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
