Job summary

City of Fayetteville is seeking a trash and recycling collection operator to perform pre- and post-trip inspections, operate department trucks on assigned routes, collect recyclables and ensure safe, efficient operations on 10-hour shifts.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 90 days; basic computer skills, GPS familiarity and effective communication are also needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to obtain Class B CDL within 90 days of hire.
• Basic computer skills and GPS familiarity required.
• Effective oral and written communication skills desired.
• Experience with heavy equipment and trucks is preferred.
• Ability to operate two-way radios and cell phones.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections daily.
• Operate department trucks to collect trash and recyclables on assigned routes.
• Sort and collect recyclable items.
• Maintain clean vehicles and perform minor repairs/diagnostics in the field.
• Work a 10-hour day on average.
• Perform radio communication as needed.
• Ensure trucks are fueled and records kept up to date.
• Adhere to safety procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
• Secondary duties as assigned.
