Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling in Nelsonville, OH is seeking a Rear Load Truck Driver to service waste and recycling routes with a strong focus on safety and customer service.

This full-time position requires a valid Class B CDL, DOT medical card, and the ability to perform pre/post trip inspections, manual handling, and operate various trucks. You’ll work nights and weekends as needed and join a team that values reliability and safety.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Class B CDL and be able to pass pre-employment testing.
• DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire.
• Experience with waste hauling and CDL driving preferred.
• Ability to read maps and communicate clearly with customers.
• Must be at least 19 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Provide trash or recycling removal services to customers safely and efficiently.
• Enter/exit the truck hundreds of times per day on route.
• Move containers from enclosures or buildings and place at curb.
• Maintain route and driver logs, perform pre/post trip inspections.
• Interact professionally with customers and ensure truck cleanliness.
• Operate other trucks as needed and perform other duties.

Rear Load Truck Drivers are responsible for servicing customers with the collection and hauling of waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. Rear Load Truck Drivers will service many different routes in various areas.

Responsibilities of Position:

• Provide trash or recycling removal services to customers, in a safe and compliant way, by emptying trash/recycling containers into truck and hauling to disposal site
• Routinely enter/exit the truck approximately 300-600 times per day, depending on the assigned route
• Pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings as needed
• Replace trash/recycling receptacles neatly at the curb or designated area
• Clean up waste spills and overflows
• Maintain and update route & driver log sheets
• Conduct pre-trip/post trip inspections and complete logs
• Professionally interact with internal and external customers, providing excellent customer service
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body and ensure cleanliness of truck cab
• Deliver trash or recycling containers as needed
• Manually load bulk items as needed
• Maintain cleanliness of assigned truck
• Operate other types of trucks as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

• Ability to read and understand a map
• Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
• Ability to drive while pulling a trailer
• Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

• General knowledge of truck mechanics preferred
• 1-2 years CDL truck driving experience preferred
• Waste industry experience preferred

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

• Frequentlylifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
• Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Frequently climbing and/or balancing
• Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

• Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
• Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
• Must be at least 19 years of age
• No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
• Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to workflexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
