Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking a CDL Driver to provide trash and recycling collection service in a safe, compliant manner. You will routinely enter and exit the truck many times daily, load and unload containers, and communicate with customers professionally.

The role requires a valid Class B CDL and a DOT Medical Card, with opportunities to work flexible hours including nights and weekends. Physical fitness to lift up to 75 lbs is needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to read and understand maps.
• Strong driving and vehicle operation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide trash or recycling removal services safely and compliantly.
• Routinely enter/exit the truck 300–500 times per day.
• Move containers from enclosures or buildings as needed.
• Replace receptacles at curb or designated area.
• Clean spills and maintain cleanliness of truck and cab.
• Maintain route and driver logs; perform inspections.
• Interact professionally with customers and coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Provide trash or recycling removal services to customers, in a safe and compliant way, by emptying trash/recycling containers into truck and hauling to disposal site
• Routinely enter/exit the truck approximately 300-500 times per day, depending on the assigned route
• May be required to pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings
• Replace trash/recycling receptacles neatly at the curb or designated area
• Clean up waste spills and overflows
• Maintain and update route & driver log sheets
• Conduct pre-trip/post trip inspections and complete logs
• Professionally interact with internal and external customers, providing excellent customer service
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body and ensure cleanliness of truck cab
• Deliver trash or recycling containers as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed

• Ability to read and understand a map
• Ability to enter/exit the truck approximately 300-500 times per day
• Excellent truck driving/maneuvering skills
• General knowledge of truck mechanics
• Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers

Experience & Knowledge Needed

• Waste industry experience, a plus

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday

• Continuously pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
• Frequently lifting/carrying a max of 75 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
• Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Frequently climbing and/or balancing
• Frequently sitting/standing/walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects

• Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
• Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire
• Must be at least 19 years of age
• No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
• Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver's license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
