Job summary

Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) seeks a dedicated Highway Maintenance Worker to join our team in Blair, NE. The role involves operating a range of highway maintenance equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting road repairs to ensure safe statewide travel.

Eligible candidates must hold a CDL (Class A or B) with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days, with on-call duties including nights, weekends, and weather-related emergencies.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy maintenance equipment preferred.
• Valid Class A or B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements within 60 days of employment.
• Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• Farming background or heavy equipment experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance equipment such as trucks, rollers, loaders, graders, plows and related gear.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment; assist with yard upkeep.
• Patches pavements, erects/repairs signs, and maintains bridges and culverts.
• Respond to snow removal and other emergencies, including nights and weekends.
• Train coworkers in maintenance tasks and safety practices.
