Job summary

The City of Grand Forks is seeking a public transit driver to transport passengers along assigned routes, collect fares, and ensure passenger safety in a city-owned bus. On-the-job CDL training is provided; a valid commercial driver's license with passenger and air brake endorsements is required within 60 days.

You will communicate clearly with riders, assist disabled passengers, and maintain vehicle cleanliness and safety.

Qualifications

• Two years of increasingly responsible experience operating a public transit bus.
• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade is required.
• Excellent customer service and clear communication with riders.
• Ability to operate a transit vehicle safely and adhere to a time schedule.

Responsibilities

• Transport passengers on designated routes safely.
• Provide information on maps, schedules, routes and transfers to passengers, including those with disabilities.
• Operate the bus smoothly, announce stops, and learn transfer points and times.
• Perform daily pre-trip checks (fuel, fluids, tires), maintain cleanliness, and document any damages.
• Follow traffic laws, monitor passengers and traffic, and collect fares daily.
• Report mechanical issues to the Transportation Operations Supervisor and coordinate with dispatch when needed.
• Secure passengers' belongings and assist with safety equipment as required.
