Job summary

The City of Lansing, Michigan is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker 500 to maintain public parks, landscapes, playground equipment, athletic fields, swimming pools, and ice rinks in a safety‑minded team. Outdoor duties include maintenance, lifting heavy loads, and occasional spraying under supervision.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, 3 years in parks maintenance, a valid CDL Group A with Air Brakes, and will obtain a pesticide license within a year.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3 years' parks maintenance experience preferred.
  • Valid CDL Group A with Air Brakes required.
  • Must obtain Pesticide Applicator License (3A/3B) within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide range of preventative maintenance and repairs for the Parks Department.
  • Lifts and hauls tools and loads weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and 95 pounds on occasion.
  • Provides written and verbal guidance to Seasonal Laborers on tasks assigned by supervision.
  • Makes estimates on time and materials needed for projects and communicates to supervision.
  • Operates trucks, tractors and equipment with manual shifting patterns requiring coordination.
  • May spray herbicides and pesticides under supervision using spraying devices or handheld equipment.
  • May assist with cemetery operation and tasks as directed.
