Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s PennDOT is seeking a CDL Operator to support highway and bridge upkeep through equipment operation and manual labor. The role emphasizes safety, problem solving, and teamwork on a set schedule from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with potential travel and overtime as required.

The position requires active PA Class A or B CDL with air brake restriction removed, a Tank Vehicle Endorsement during probation, and a Medical Examiner’s Certificate, with a focus

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program; or
• Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and other equipment used for highway and bridge maintenance
• Operate trucks with snow plow attachments to support snow removal on roads and bridges
• Perform flagger duties to maintain safe conditions when equipment is not being operated
• Use motorized and non-motorized tools to clean culverts, cut brush, repair structures, and complete maintenance tasks
• Make field adjustments, perform minor repairs, and complete preventative maintenance on assigned equipment
• Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and document observations to maintain a safe work environment
