Job summary

Sacramento Native American Health Center, Inc. is seeking a Commercial Driver with a Class A CDL to operate a variety of heavy trucks in outdoor environments, delivering materials and supporting fleet operations on demanding jobsites.

You will perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintain DOT logs, ensure loads are secured, and comply with safety regulations. A valid CDL-A, clean driving record, and ability to travel up to 30% are required.

Qualifications

• CDL Class A license required with recent heavy-truck driving experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Commercial Driver possesses a CDL (Class A) tospecifically drive/operatevarious types of fleet trucks. Our drivers operate and maintain all aspects associated with the fleet trucks. To be considered you MUST have previous experience Driving and Operating one or more of the following: Dump Truck: 10 wheelers, truck and pups, truck and transfer, end dumps, bottom dumps, water truck, Straight Truck, Fuel Truck, Trailers, Tractors with (10-speed, 13-speed, and 18-speed), and low bed trailers in order to pick up and deliver materials.

Essential Functions:

• All work takes place outside on public and private roads, jobsites, through all weather conditions.
• Completely and accurately fill out daily paperwork, including timecards, logbooks, and Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) to record hours of service in compliance with DOT regulations.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required by DOT regulations to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle.
• Safely operate vehicles with a gross weight of up to 100,000lbs.
• Ensure loads are properly secured, balanced, and within legal weight limits.
• Meet delivery deadlines while strictly adhering to DOT hours of service (HOS) and company safety regulations.
• Have good judgement regarding site, terrain, and weather conditions for safe equipment operation.
• Perform multiple inspections throughout the day on equipment to check and maintain proper fluid levels, performance of the equipment, etc., using the company checklist as a guideline.
• Continuously conducts safety checks on the equipment (seat belt, fire extinguisher, lights, etc.) to ensure equipment is working properly and safely.
• Safely haul loads from start to finish, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
• Survey, evaluate and take measures to ensure work area is safe from any dangers (powerlines, utilities, co-workers, etc.)
• Adhere to defensive driving techniques and accident prevention protocols to ensure the safety of the driver, crew, and public while on the road.
• Inspect all attachments to the machinery to ensure that they are operational and take the appropriate steps to correct.
• Reports equipment needs and hazards to supervisor.
• Maintains good housekeeping on equipment and ensures cleanliness and organization in work areas.
• Operates a chainsaw when needed.
• Other tasks may include assisting with other operations at the job site such as maintenance of other equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• All work is performed outside in all types of various weather (i.e. heat, cold, wind, sun and inclement weather, etc.)

Physical Demands:

• Must have excellent visual and auditory physical capabilities to manage sight and sounds in hazardous forestry and construction environments.
• Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to remain alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities at the project site, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, equipment, and moving traffic when applicable.
• Coordination between hands, eyes, and feet to guide equipment and objects is required.
• Must be able to push, pull, climb, sit, and stretch regularly and repetitively while performing the essential functions of the job.
• Must be able to work around loud noises.
• Must be able to mount and dismount safely off vehicles and equipment , including entering and exiting the vehicle's cab multiple times a day.
• Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Must be able to work overtime as requested.
• Must be able to walk on uneven terrain.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to work and drive in a variety of weather conditions.

Must be able to remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 12 hours (intrastate).

Must be able to perform tasks such as shifting a manual transmission and operating foot pedals.

Must be able to spend at least 85% of the day sitting and 15% of the day walking on various surfaces.

Must be able to perform bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, reaching (including above shoulders), pulling, pushing, and balancing.

Travel Required:

• Position travels within Northern California, must be able to stay on project sites 5 to 6 days a week, generally 2 to 6 hours away from Oroville.
• Ability to work a schedule of either 5 days 10 hours per day or 6 days 12 hours per day.
• Or a fire response schedule in which the schedule varies depending upon the immediate emergency.

Required Education and Experience:

• Operating Heavy-Duty trucks with manual transmission: 2-3 years experience.
• Driving Log Truck or Transfer Truck: 2-5 years years experience.
• Drive a 10, 13, and 18 speed manual transmission.
• Preferred Education and Experience:
• High School education or equivalent.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

• Must have a valid class A license.
• Must be able to drive standard transmission.

Other Duties:

Commercial drivers are responsible for the proper maintenance and care of equipment and vehicles, ensuring it remains in optimal condition for efficient operation. They are expected to conduct routine inspections, perform preventive maintenance tasks, and promptly report any issues to management. Additionally, operators must operate machinery and drive various heavy commercial vehicles with caution and expertise to minimize the risk of damage and ensure longevity of equipment and vehicles.
