Job summary

Williams Lumber and Home Centers in Hudson, NY is seeking a Delivery Driver to operate company vehicles and deliver lumber and building materials to customers. This role involves loading, securing loads, and ensuring accuracy against invoices.

You will unload at customer sites, verify deliveries, maintain vehicle condition, and comply with DOT regulations. The position requires safe driving, daily logs, and teamwork to support yard operations and prompt deliveries.

Responsibilities

• Assists in loading and tying down materials for delivery
• Checks loads against invoices to ensure product, sizes and quantities are correct before leaving the yard
• Unloads product at customer sites, manually or with forklift/helper
• Unloads and verifies product to customer invoices; collects CODs as needed
• Handles materials to avoid damage
• Follows all DOT safety laws and safe driving practices
• Completes truck logs and reports as required by law or company regulations
• Reads and complies with DOT testing/training regulations
• Maintains vehicle appearance and readiness, including daily servicing and maintenance
• Reports mechanical or repair problems to the Yard Foreman
• Maintains a courteous attitude at the yard and during deliveries
• Completes deliveries promptly, efficiently and safely
• Calls the Yard Foreman for unanticipated situations
• Follows accident reporting procedures and safety rules
• Follows procedures for inter-yard transfers
• Reports theft or bribery indications to foreman
• Performs yard duties when not driving
• Maintains good housekeeping in assigned areas
• Displays teamwork and participates in required training
• Completes daily vehicle maintenance logs

Job description

Summary: Drives assigned company vehicles primarily to deliver lumber and building materials to customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

• Assists in the loading and tie down of materials to be delivered.


• Checks loads to be delivered against the invoice to ensure product, sizes and quantities are correct prior to leaving the yard.


• Will unload the product at the customer’s site location manually or with the assistance of a fork truck or helper.


• Unloads and verifies product to customer’s invoice. Gets customer’s signature as possible. Collects COD’s as needed.


• Handles materials as to avoid damage and damage causing situations.


• Follows all State and Federal Safety Laws of safe driving.


• Completes all forms, reports and truck logs as required by law or Company regulations.


• Readily complies with all DOT required testing and training regulations.


• Responsible for safe operation, appearance, and operational readiness or their assigned vehicle, including daily servicing and maintenance such as oil, tires, lights, ropes, flares, etc.


• Reports any mechanical or repair problems to the Yard Foreman.


• Maintains a courteous and helpful attitude at the yard and upon all deliveries to customers and exercises caution and courtesy while driving.


• Completes all deliveries as promptly, efficiently and safely as possible.


• Calls the Yard Foreman when confronted with unanticipated situations.


• Follows proper procedures while immediately reporting any vehicle accidents or near misses to the Yard Foreman.


• Adheres to all safety procedures.


• Follows proper procedures for inter-yard transfers.


• Reports any indications of theft or bribery to foreman.


• Performs yard duties when not assigned driving duties.


• Maintains good housekeeping practices in assigned areas.


• Displays teamwork and effort in performance of all duties.


• Participates in required training assignments.


• Completes any daily vehicle maintenance logs as needed.

As with all other jobs, other duties may be assigned. Management reserves the right to reassign an individual in this position to another position in the interest of efficient personnel utilization.
