Job summary

Carbonella & DeSarbo, Inc. is seeking a CDL A/B Driver to transport fruits and produce to distribution centers and customers. You will ensure timely deliveries, handle loading/unloading tasks, and maintain logs and records during daily routes.

The role may involve backhaul opportunities and requires adherence to safety and DOT regulations. The position is full-time with first shift hours. Candidates should be prepared for varying weather conditions and physical demands of the job, including

Qualifications

Job Title: CDL - A or B Driver

Job Location: Carbonella and Desarbo - Brandford, CT 06405. Position Type: Full Time. Job Shift: 1st Shift.

As a CDL- A or B Driver, you will create company and customer success by delivering our fresh fruit and produce orders, along with any other ancillary items included on customer orders, to their respective delivery locations. You may, at times, be asked to back haul product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Transport finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers
• Represent Carbonella & DeSarbo, Inc. in a professional, responsible, and respectful manner while driving and interacting with customers
• Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
• Plan routes and meet delivery schedules
• Document and log work/rest periods and kilometers/miles spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts
• Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
• Collect and verify delivery instructions
• Report defects, accidents or violations
• Offload product using a pallet jack, forklift, hand truck, by hand, or other method depending upon available equipment
• Breakdown loads by hand at some customer locations, depending upon customer needs
• Clearly indicate customer returns on customer invoices, and call into office with any and all customer returns
• Collect money, in the form of cash or check, where required, indicating the dollar amount and form of payment on each invoice
• Drive and work in inclement weather conditions

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid state issued commercial driver’s license, Class A or B (CDL) is required
• Proven work experience as a truck driver
• Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly
• Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
• No recent moving or driving violations
• Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc)
• Willing to submit to background/drug checks and provide employment recommendations
• Driving record with no more than 6 penalty points within the last three (3) years
• Pass a DOT certified medical exam
• May require demonstrated ability and proficiency operating a standard 10-speed transmission
• Ability to maintain physical balance to safely enter and exit transported vehicles
• Ability to apply pressure to winch down transported vehicles during the loading process

Physical Demands and Abilities

• Primarily working in an outdoor environment; may include working at times in noisy and/or inclement weather conditions
• Extended periods of time sitting during driving transport equipment; repeatedly climbing up and down from transport equipment
• Regularly lift and/or move objects 10-75 lbs., occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs.
• Flexible work hours with shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays
• Follow all O.S.H.A., and EPA standards including the use of Personal Protective Equipment, and proper waste disposal in required areas
• Frequently required to enter and exit large refrigerated coolers, as well as work in warehouse open to outdoor temperatures during shipping and/or receiving. Must be able to tolerate working in temperatures ranging from 25 degrees up to 100 degrees; work environment may be cool and wet
