Overview

The Bulk Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of cement and other related products in both rural and urban environments in all weather conditions. This position serves to support the Ready-Mix concrete industry by providing the materials necessary in a timely manner and with the utmost safety for all parties utilizing the highway/roadway system along with their own safety.

Responsibilities

Transportation

  • Drive company-owned or leased trucks in a professional manner to transport and deliver products or other materials
  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
  • Operate equipment, such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones to exchange necessary information with dispatch, supervisors, or other drivers
  • Pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicle and trailer to ensure safety as a priority
  • Report all on-duty accidents and any on-duty or off-duty violations, suspensions, disqualifications, or revocations
  • Drive trucks to weigh stations when appropriate along routes to document weights and to comply with state regulations
  • Maintain, protect, and report vehicle defects

Delivery

  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew
  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required

Ethical Conduct

  • Knowledge and compliance with OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and company safety rules and regulations
  • Must be courteous, professional, safe, and have a positive attitude while working with customers, fellow employees, the public, state, county, and city officers

Qualifications

Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Class A Driver’s License
  • Valid medical card obtained through company physical exam

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years driving experience required

Skills/Abilities:

  • Safe driving record
  • Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries and to make entries on reports and records required
Working Conditions
  • Operation within a fast-paced environment
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions
  • Must be able to work through stressful situations while maintaining professionalism and composure
  • In an enclosed vehicle subject to whole body vibration and sedentary position for up to 6-14 hours per day
  • Outdoors, exposed to weather, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Extremely bright or inadequate lighting
  • Noise levels may be distracting or uncomfortable
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Must be able to stand and move about job sites with uneven and unpaved ground while unloading cement from tanker
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to frequently bend to attach and detach product hoses from tractor and silos
  • Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment
  • Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary
  • Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards, and jobsites as necessary
  • Lift/Carry up to 55 pounds frequently
  • Lift up to 100 pounds occasionally
