Overview

Syracuse, New York Class B Route Driver with Hazmat Endorsement & Material Handling Duties

East Penn Manufacturing is looking for a highly motivated, customer-focused Backup Route Driver to join our team. Drive dedicated with East Penn and enjoy a consistent schedule and pay, onsite management, and regular deliveries to dedicated customers. Guaranteed 40 hours per week, with a typical 5-day work week; schedule may vary based on needs and scheduled runs.

In addition to a consistent schedule and pay, East Penn employees have access to comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, vision, prescription drugs, a 401(k) savings plan, and paid time off.

This position offers a pay rate of $26.09 per hour and includes a $2,500 Sign-On / Retention Bonus!

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include warehouse material handling and backup route delivery driving.

  • Pulling (physical lifting) orders, loading and unloading trucks, and loading batteries for customers.
  • Must be highly motivated with good communication skills.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Forklift experience on both stand-up and sit-down forklifts required.
Class B Route Driver Duties
  • Delivering and picking up freight from customer locations such as warehouses, retail stores, dealerships, and small businesses.
  • Schedule varies; trips may last 1-2 days.
  • Driving a diesel or gasoline-powered straight van with a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 33,000 GVW.
  • Verifying freight with shipping papers.
  • Applying knowledge of FMCSA regulations, local laws, and hazardous material handling.
  • Navigating highways and maneuvering in various situations.
  • Inspecting the vehicle for safety and mechanical issues before and after trips.
  • Maintaining a Driver's Daily log per federal regulations.
  • Preparing shipping papers and interacting with customers during deliveries and pickups.
  • Performing warehouse work using material handling equipment.
Qualifications
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License with endorsements for Air Brakes and Hazmat (endorsements obtained during probation if not prior to employment).
  • Proficiency in reading, communication, and math skills.
