Job summary

US Foods is seeking a CDL A Shuttle Driver in Grimes, IA. You will drive tractor trailers containing meats, produce, frozen foods, and dry goods to and from remote dispatch sites, delivering goods with a focus on safety and reliability.

The role emphasizes delivering as a trusted link between our customers and our distribution network, with a sign-on bonus for eligible new hires and a base hourly rate starting at $30.87, plus potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Must hold CDL Class A with valid endorsements and DOT qualifications.
• 6 months commercial driving experience required.
• Doubles endorsement required; 6 months driving with doubles preferred.
• Must be comfortable working overnight.
• Able to read and communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Safe Driving: transport products between dispatch sites safely and efficiently.
• Team Up: backhaul or delivery roles as needed with adaptability.
• Equipment Inspection: perform pre- and post-trip inspections for safety.
• Inspect and Confirm: verify freight and trailer temperatures; ensure accuracy.
• Adaptability: perform other duties as assigned by management.

CDL A Shuttle Driver - Position Overview

Are you ready to join one of the foodservice industry's powerhouses? As a US Foods® CDL A Shuttle Driver, you will drive tractor trailers containing various products (meats, produce, frozen foods, dry goods, etc.) to and from remote dispatch sites.This role goes beyond simply transporting goods - it’s about perfecting the craft of delivery, earning trust mile by mile, and serving as a vital link to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Safe Driving : Master the art of the drive, transporting various products between dispatch sites with safety and efficiency.
• Team Up: Embrace the challenge of backhaul or delivery roles when needed, show your adaptability.
• Equipment Inspection : Conduct pre- & post-trip inspections to uphold safety standards.
• Inspect and Confirm: Verify the freight on the truck, check the trailer temperatures, every detail matters.
• Adaptability: All other duties assigned by management.

Physical Requirements

• Lift/carry/push/pull/lower 20 to 80+ lbs. of product repetitively during each shift required.
• Driving & working in inclement weather conditions with frequent stops (10+ per shift) required.
• Comfortable working in a multi-temperature environment as low as 0 degrees.
• Continuously grasp objects & manipulate objects. Frequently sit, stand, walk, drive, climb/balance, stoop/squat, kneel/bend, bend, reach above shoulder, twist, and use manual dexterity.

Qualifications

• Register to the FMCSA Clearinghouse*
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have valid CDL Class A issued by the state of legal residence with necessary endorsements and DOT qualifications.
• 6-months commercial driving experience required.
• Doubles endorsement required AND minimum 6-months driving with doubles endorsements preferred.
• Must be comfortable working overnight.
• Ability to operate manual transmission preferred; may be required in specific locations.
• Must be able to read and communicate in the English language - able to hold a conversation, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to enter information on reports and records.

Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law (for example: state minimum wage thresholds). The expected base rate for this role is between $30.87 and $32.82 per hour.

As applicable, this role may also receive overtime compensation (i.e., based on cases, mileage, stops).
