Job summary

ABF Freight, an ArcBest company, is hiring for a dock/yard worker at our Paterson, NJ service center. This hourly role includes loading, unloading, check-in, and cargo delivery tasks within a Union environment.

You will operate a forklift, log paperwork, and ensure safety and DOT compliance. The position offers overtime eligibility and comprehensive benefits through the Teamsters.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of verifiable tractor/trailer experience; training possible for less than 1 year.
• Class-A CDL with doubles/triples, tanker and hazmat endorsements required.
• Minimum 21 years of age; good driving and work record.
• DOT drug screen and medical requirements must be met.

Responsibilities

• Complete routine paperwork and log loading sheets effectively.
• Judge when to build and tear down trailers to optimize time and resources while following weight laws.
• Operate a forklift as needed.
• Load and unload cargo from trailers and facilities.
• Perform tasks including check-in, tractor/trailer inspection, setup, and cargo pickup/delivery.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Pickup and delivery of cargo to and from various destinations usually within proximity of the consolidation/distribution center. The loading and unloading of trailers utilizing the same techniques, technology and procedures as a dock worker. Actual duties and schedule may vary depending on terminal location.

Responsibilities

• Complete routine paperwork effectively, and properly log loading sheets.
• Exercise independent judgment regarding the building and tearing down of the trailer to utilize time, resources, energy, and physical demands effectively and efficiently, while complying with all weight distribution laws.
• Operate a forklift as needed.
• Load and unload cargo.
• Perform various tasks ranging from check-in, tractor/trailer inspection, tractor set up, and the pickup and delivery of cargo.
• Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: High School Diploma / GED
• Experience: 1 year of verifiable tractor/trailer experience (Candidates with less than 1 year experience may be eligible for training).
• Certifications: Class-A CDL with doubles/triples, tanker and hazardous materials endorsements.
• Minimum 21 years of age.
• Good stable work record.
• Safe driving record (from MVR and previous employment).
• Be able to pass DOT pre-employment drug screen and meet DOT medical requirements.
• Shift days and hours required for this position vary by location and may include days, nights, and/or weekends. Being able to work the required hours at this location will be considered a minimum requirement.

Other Details

• Work Hours: Schedule may vary depending on Service Center location.
• Travel Requirements: Minimal (0%-25%).
• Compensation: This is a hourly position paid weekly. In accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act, the pay range for this position is $29.31 to $32.57 per hour with overtime paid after 8 hours for full-time employees. Company-funded benefits are offered to full-time employees after a waiting period determined by local union
