Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Tarboro, NC is seeking a Feed Delivery Driver to safely operate a feed truck and transport materials to feed mills and farms, complying with DOT rules and company policies.

The role requires a CDL, DOT physical, ability to read maps, and proficiency with an on-board computer. You will complete logs, pre/post trip inspections, and coordinate with terminals to ensure timely deliveries.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, preferred.
• Meet DOT requirements.
• At least 21 years of age.
• No DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last ten years while operating a CMV, or within the last three years for a Non-CMV.
• No more than one moving violation in the last three years.
• Current valid CDL from one state.
• Knowledgeable of FMCSR.
• 1-year CDL experience desired or completion of 3rd party training.
• Pass a DOT Physical on initial hire.
• Feed delivery experience preferred.
• Complete all CDL driver employment information.
• Read and speak English.
• Understand highway signs and signals.
• Respond to inquiries and log reports.
• Work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Be respectful, approachable and team oriented.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate feed truck with capacity of more than 30 tons to destinations.
• Complete a Road Test and obtain certificate.
• Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspections.
• Handle shipping documents for accuracy and timely submission.
• Position equipment for safe offloading into bins.
• Drive day/night in varying climates and traffic.
• Use on-board computer and maintain logs and DVIR.
• Pre-load trailer for next shift and ensure route accuracy.
• Communicate with business associates to resolve issues civically.
• Calculate simple feed delivery calculations.
• Comply with Bio-Security and Environmental rules and DOT rules.

Your Opportunity

Compensation: $25.50 hourly

The Feed Delivery Driver safely operates feed truck with capacity of more than thirty (30) tons transporting materials to and from specified feed mill and farm destinations, possibly including tandem trailers.

Core Responsibilities

• Successfully complete a Road Test and be issued a certificate.

• Properly Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspect the equipment.

• Work in single driver environment.

• Handle shipping documents to ensure accuracy and timely submission.

• Position equipment properly to safely offload feed into feed bins.

• Drive day/night in variety of climates and traffic.

• Use on-board computer.

• Maintain logs, DVIR, itinerary, and other paperwork as required.

• Fuel equipment and extract on-board computer (or turns in logs) daily.

• Pre-load trailer for next shift.

• Handle shipping documents to insure accuracy and timely submission.

• Use Farm Directions Book, maps or GPS to avoid getting lost or going out-of-route.

• Be able to converse with our business associated to resolve problems in a civil manner.

• Be able to calculate simple mathematical problems dealing with feed delivery.

• Comply with all Bio-Security (BMS) and Environmental (EMS) management system's rules and regulations.

• Comply with DOT rules and regulations.

• Comply with all Smithfield established policies and procedures.

• Must be able to pass a DOT Physical upon initial hire.

• Feed delivery experience preferred.

• Complete all required information on the CDL Driver Application For Employment.

• Be able to read and speak the English language.

• Be able to understand highway traffic signs and signals.

• Be able to respond to official inquiries and make entries on reports and records.

• Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

• Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
