CDC Office and Location: A fellowship opportunity is available in the Office of Laboratory Systems and Response (OLSR) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the major operation components of the Department of Health and Human Services. Research Project

During the fellowship, you will learn and apply CDC’s approach to evaluation, using the CDC evaluation framework, to gain experience on OLSR's mission of strengthening laboratories that support public health. You will train closely with OLSR program evaluators and SMEs to build skills in evaluation design, implementation, and analysis. You will gain practical experience in a wide range of activities such as the following: developing logic models to describe the program, writing evaluation questions and indicators, developing data collection instruments, collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, sharing evaluation results, and/or using data visualization techniques. You may also learn from OLSR program evaluators about developing training on evaluation concepts, supporting strategic planning, and providing evaluation support to partners.

Learning Objectives

The fellowship will offer the opportunity to learn about and obtain hands‑on experience in the following activities:

• Evaluation methodology: designing evaluations and collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data using the CDC evaluation framework
• Evaluation context: describing the program, engaging stakeholders, and communicating evaluation results
• Evaluation practice: reflective practice and collaborating effectively with partners
• Planning and project management: developing project plans and timelines and meeting management

Anticipated Appointment Start Date

Appointment Length

The appointment will initially be for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC and is contingent on the availability of funds.

The appointment is full time.

Stipend rates may vary based on numerous factors, including opportunity, location, education, and experience. If you are interviewed, you can inquire about the exact stipend rate at that time and if selected, your appointment offer will include the monthly stipend rate.

ORISE Information

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.

The successful applicant(s) will be required to comply with Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) requirements of the hosting facility, including but not limited to, COVID-19 requirements (e.g. facial covering, physical distancing, testing, vaccination).

Qualifications

The qualified candidate should have received a master's or doctoral degree in Public Health, Behavioral Science, or a related field from an accredited academic institution within the past five years.
