Job summary

Cedar City Regional Airport is seeking an Airport Maintenance Worker to perform a broad range of light- to semi-skilled duties maintaining the airport facilities and grounds. You will handle runway lighting, signage, electrical repairs, and snow removal to keep airfield operations safe and compliant with FAA rules.

The role requires on-call availability, 20-minute on-site response, and a valid Utah driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Five years experience in aviation related activities that includes airport maintenance and snow removal or related roles.
  • Completion of firearms training and wildlife management firearms experience.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Utah driver’s license.
  • On-call/standby with a 20-minute on-site response time.
  • Satisfactory pass of a criminal history background check per TSA requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains runway/taxiway lighting, signage, and associated electrical systems.
  • Responds to emergencies to re-establish airfield operations quickly.
  • Ensures FAA FARs/ACs safety and maintenance compliance for the airfield.
  • Operates equipment to maintain airport grounds and buildings.
  • Performs snow and ice removal from runways and aprons.
  • Inspects the airfield daily per FAA Part 139 regulations.
  • Performs general maintenance on terminal facilities (plumbing, electrical, HVAC).
  • Repairs high voltage electrical circuits and performs FOD removal.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in maintaining the Cedar City Regional Airport. Performs related responsibilities as required.

Reporting Relationship

Works under general supervision from the Airport Manager or Airport Maintenance. May assign and direct activities of other hourly personnel.

Example Of Duties
  • Maintains runway and taxiway lighting, airport navigation aids, and signage. Changes bulbs and transformers and repairs fixtures, wiring and other electrical equipment. Troubleshoots, replaces and adjusts settings on printed circuit boards.
  • Responds to emergency situations to assist the Airport Manager in rescue & recovery operations and to re-establish the airfield and runway back to operational status at the earliest opportunity.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations (FARs) and advisory circulars (ACs) regarding safety, operations, and maintenance of the airfield.
  • Responsible for ensuring the proper operation and maintenance of all public buildings and grounds at the airport, including pavement areas, airport terminal building and other City-owned facilities.
  • Keeps airport systems free and clear of obstructions per FAA regulations.
  • Maintains Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) and Runway End Identifier Light (REIL) systems. Changes bulbs, and electronic components as required. Troubleshoots to determine any operational problems and appropriate solution. Calibrate and realign these systems as required.
  • Maintains Obstruction lighting, windsocks and Rotating Beacon for proper operation.
  • Performs daily/weekly airport inspections in accordance with FAA Part 139 regulations.
  • Operates a variety of equipment including mowers, tractors, spraying equipment, box scraper, etc. as required to maintain airport grounds.
  • Heavy Equipment Operator for tractors, backhoes, dump trucks and snow removal equipment.
  • Perform snow and ice removal from runways, taxiways, and aprons.
  • Performs groundskeeper functions for airport and terminal building. Repairs sprinkler systems and maintains landscaping areas.
  • Perform general maintenance on the terminal building to include troubleshooting systems, general plumbing, carpentry, electrical repairs, HVAC systems, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs high voltage electrical circuits.
  • Performs Foreign Object Debris (FOD) removal.
  • Conducts wildlife hazard management practices.
  • Conducts airport security patrols.
  • Repairs perimeter fences to include troubleshooting and repairs to electronic gate systems.
  • Responds to airport emergencies when required.
  • Prepares and ensures publication of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) that are accurate and compliant with FAA guidance to alert aircrews and air traffic controllers of non-standard airfield conditions and hazards.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Electrical troubleshooting and maintenance. Methods, techniques, and safety precautions necessary to maintain airport systems. Plumbing and building maintenance to repair and maintain the terminal building; general landscaping and grounds maintenance. Thorough knowledge of operating procedures required around aircraft and on airports.

Ability To

Use hand and power tools required to maintain airport/terminal building systems. Operate medium sized power driven equipment. Perform manual labor. Understand and carry out written and oral directions. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Experience And Education

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Five (5) years experience (preferred) in aviation related activities that includes airport maintenance and snow removal; airport operations; or as an industrial mechanic or maintenance technician.

Special Requirements

Completion of firearms training. Experience with firearms used for Wildlife Management. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Utah driver's license. Required to be on-call/standby, for snow removal or other designated emergencies and must have a 20-minute on-site response time. Satisfactorily pass a criminal history background check as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: While performing duties of job employee may frequently bend, stoop or crouch; Employee may sit or stand for long periods of time and may occasional move up to 50 pounds. Moderate exposure to hazards associated with confined spaces, high voltages, heat, cold, noise and other elements associated with an Airport environment.

Work Environment: Generally comfortable working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with occasional increased noise exposure. Occasional exposure to stressful situations as a result of human behavior and deadlines. Evening and weekend work required. Occasional field work and exposure to weather required.
