Job summary

Adams 12 Five Star Schools in Thornton, CO, seeks a site aide for the 21st Century Community Learning Center. You will support the site director in supervising students, coordinating activities, and ensuring safety during education, recreation, and enrichment, with occasional field trips.

The role is part-time (0.3 FTE), 12 hours per week, paying $18.40–$23.25 per hour, with a minimum age of 16 and required certifications within 90 days.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions certifications required within 90 days after entering position.

Responsibilities

• Assist site directors and leaders to care for, supervise, guide, and assist students during crafts, art projects, games and other educational activities to provide developmental stimulation and meet the children's needs.
• Observe children and monitor building security to ensure health and safety; prepare snacks and clean areas; distribute medication and provide First Aid.
• Create engaging activities and lesson plans to ensure student participation.
• Communicate with parents, staff, and teachers regarding conduct or program information; record attendance and contact parents about absence.

Summary:

Assists site director to lead and supervise children in 21st Century Community Learning Center during education, recreational activities, and academic enrichment, as well as occasional field trips. Duties include providing direction, guidance and assistance to students; effectively handling student conduct situations; ensuring student safety and security; communicating with parents, staff, teachers, site director and site leader; opening, closing and securing school building; preparing snacks; cleaning classroom areas; recording attendance; assisting sick or injured students; and creating new activities.

Job Tasks Descriptions

• Assist site directors and/or leaders to care for, supervise, guide, and assist students during crafts, art projects, games and other educational activities to provide developmental stimulation and meet the children's needs. Monitor student behavior during activities, effectively handle student conduct situations and encourage and support positive behavior reflective of restorative practice and positive youth development.
• Assist site directors and leaders to observe the children and monitor the security of the building at all times to ensure the children's health and safety. Assist site directors, assistant site directors, and leaders to prepare snacks and clean the activity and kitchen areas after use. Distribute medication to students as directed and provide general First Aid when needed.
• Assist with creating creative and engaging activities and lesson plans that ensure participation of students.
• Assist site directors and leaders to communicate with parents, staff, and teachers regarding student conduct or program information. Record attendance and contact parents regarding absent students.
• Assist site directors and leaders to call parents to get authorization for an unauthorized adult to pick up the student from the program. Check identification of adult.
• Assist site directors and leaders to secure the building, equipment, and program per District and department guidelines. Ensure areas and equipment used by the program are cleaned and maintained. Ensure equipment is secure and radios are charged for the following day.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and related work experience:

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• One (1) year of high school, vocational school, or equivalent on-the-job training and experience.

Licenses, registrations or certifications:

• Criminal background check required for hire.
• CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions Certifications are required within 90 days after entering position.
• May be required to complete current state required annual continuing education (presently 15 hours minimum) related to one or more of the following: child growth and development, health and safe environment, developmentally appropriate practices, guidance, family relationships, cultural and individual diversity, and professionalism.

Salary information:

All Classified positions are paid on an hourly basis. All Newly hired classified employees are placed initially on Step 1 of the pay grade for their position. Classified employees can advance an additional 7 steps (maximum Step 8) based on their previous experience. Final hourly placement on the Classified Salary schedule is dependent on the Grade Level for the position being posted and employees' previous work experience. "Grade" refers to position or job classification and "Step" refers to the number of work experience credit or service years. See our Classified Salary Schedule for hourly rates.
