Job summary

Job description

Role Snapshot

This position is responsible for providing operational focus, work management, and process guidance to ensure consistent, reliable, efficient, and cost‑effective operation of the CC and broader OPC generating fleet. The role involves development and administration of the OPC Fleet Conduct of Operations Program, ensuring compliance across all CC sites, establishing standards and accountability for log keeping, operating rounds, equipment status control, and other operational practices. It requires collaboration with training personnel, the CT Fleet Work Management & Resource Specialist, and the Corrective Action Program Manager to support continuous improvement, operational excellence, and fleet‑wide best practice adoption.

What You’ll Do
  • Establish and maintain the Conduct of Operations procedure, evaluate KPIs, facilitate training, and ensure best practices for efficient operations.
  • Maintain and assess plant status control methods fleet‑wide, including off‑standard equipment status, wire lifts, and jumper installations.
  • Visit plant sites frequently to facilitate adherence to the Conduct of Operations, perform training, trending, and assessment of programs, and provide management summaries.
  • Interface with the CT Fleet Work Management & Resource specialist and plant maintenance coordinators to ensure consistent application of the Conduct of Maintenance and provide performance reports.
  • Interface with the Fleet Operational Excellence Program Manager.
  • Work in awkward positions (kneeling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling).
Other Duties
  • Maintain guidance procedures associated with Conduct of Operations.
  • Collaborate with the CT Fleet Work Management & Resource Specialist, engineering, and plant personnel to establish and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Monitor performance of fleet generating facilities for status control and Conduct of Operation improvement opportunities.
  • Track assessment performance and lessons learned to ensure continued improvement.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
What You Bring

Diplomatic and negotiation skills are highly valued. The candidate must possess a polished mature image to effectively communicate technical recommendations to diverse personnel.

Education

Bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred.

Experience
  • Eight years minimum plant operations and work management experience in a commercial electric power generating plant.
  • Experience with CMMS (preferably Maximo), procedure writing, and process improvement.
Equivalent Experience

Candidates with a two (2) year technical degree or non‑engineering bachelor's degree plus 10 years of directly related operations and work management experience, or fifteen (15) years of directly related experience may be considered.

  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and drawings for structures, process systems, mechanical equipment, HVAC, piping, and electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Basic management/supervisory skills.
  • Ability to wear required personnel protective equipment.
Licenses, Registrations, and/or Certifications

Valid driver's license that meets the insurance eligibility requirements under Oglethorpe Power's Driver Qualification Program.

Potential unusual hours required of this position

The generating plants operate on a 24‑hour basis. The incumbent may elect to attend plant meetings or observe back‑shift operational activities outside normal office hours.
