Job summary

Beef Northwest Feeders, LLC is seeking a experienced yard supervisor to oversee all cattle departments, coordinate with pen riders, vet crew, and processing staff. You will manage cattle movements, health programs, and document control while leading a skilled team.

You will participate in budget discussions, supervise performance reviews, and work with department managers on inventory, medicine usage, and customer communications.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily supervision of all cattle departments and delegate tasks to Pen Riders, Processing, and Vet Crew.
• Oversee cattle movement from starting point through feeding cycle to shipment.
• Support shipping/receiving; evaluate cattle condition and communicate updates to staff.
• Prepare processing work orders and schedule processing with the processing crew.
• Supervise veterinary treatments and maintain treatment records in the vet system.
• Transmit cattle activity paperwork to the Cattle Analyst and ensure accuracy of records.
• Ensure housekeeping is completed and coordinate with Yard Maintenance for repairs.
• Coordinate feed schedules and cattle movements with the Feed Manager.
• Prepare weekly inventory and end-of-month reconciliation of medicines and supplies.
• May handle customer relations involving cattle performance discussions and ranch visits.

Job description

Directly responsible for care and health of all feedyard cattle, as well as all activities relating to cattle including transmittal of appropriate paperwork. He or she will lead and work with the pen riders, cattle doctors, and processing crew. They will oversee the overall direction, performance and evaluation of supervises, employee adherence to company policies, and prepare employee performance reviews of cattle department employees. Will participate in the annual budget process and monthly budget meetings. Responsible for assisting with all medicine and processing pharmaceuticals and supply inventories, including product usage and inventory control. They will work closely with the Yard Manager, Assistant Yard Manager, Feed Manager, Yard Maintenance Manager, and consulting veterinarian.

Specific Job Functions:

• Daily supervision of all cattle departments. This includes delegating and assigning work for Pen Riders, Processing, and Vet Crew.
• Manage the movement of cattle from starting, throughout the feeding cycle, and shipment out of the yard.
• Oversee and support shipping and receiving. Evaluates condition, type and background of cattle. Communicates cattle receiving’s to all affected feedyard staff.
• Prepares processing work order and schedules processing of cattle with processing crew.
• Supervises veterinary treatment of sick cattle by Cattle Doctor and treatment entry into the vet computer system. Oversees treatment regimes, cattle health, and sick animal recovery. Responsible for all hospital pen inventories.

• Cattle Analyst including receiving paperwork, pen movements and pen pulls, shipments, and death notices.
• Ensures all housekeeping is completed.
• Communicates needed pen repairs and maintenance to the Yard Maintenance Manager.
• Coordinates with the Feed Manager regarding feed schedules and cattle movements.
• Prepares weekly medicine and processing supplies order, counts inventory at month end and prepares inventory reconciliation.
• May be assigned customer relations responsibilities, which would include cattle performance communication with the customer, discussion of placements and possible ranch visits.
• Provide 2 to 3 good horses to utilize in the yard.
• Reconcile all lot headcounts on last shipment day for closeout purposes.
