Job summary

H2ajobs is seeking a livestock farm worker to assist with the seasonal calving and birthing process, calf rearing, and overall cattle care. You will calve and wean calves, sort calves from cows, medicate and vaccinate for seasonal sicknesses, and tend newborns and nursing cows during fall, winter and early spring.

Additional duties include monitoring pregnant cows, moving cattle, snow removal, and basic farm maintenance.

Qualifications

• 6 months experience with farm livestock.

Job description

Assist with the annual seasonal livestock breeding/birthing process. Calve and wean calves during the calving and weaning seasons. Sort calves off of cows. Medicate, vaccinate and treat for seasonal sicknesses. Care for newborn calves and nursing mothers during the fall, winter and early spring months, when they require additional care due to subfreezing and fluctuating temperatures and seasonal sicknesses. Monitor pregnant cows, nursing mothers and newborn calves. Load, unload and move cattle. Snow removal. Feed cattle during heavy snow periods when no seasonal pasturelands remain available to naturally graze upon. Basic farm maintenance and shop work.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: Fully furnished kitchen provided. Workers will have access to grocery stores at least once per week.

Transport: The employer will provide advance transportation for reasonable (most economical) common carrier or other transportation which conforms to the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) in bound transportation (if it is the prevailing practice). If not the prevailing practice, the employer will reimburse the worker for transportation costs and subsistence to the employer's work site when the worker completes 50% of the work period.

Experience wanted: 6 months

Drivers license in 30 days.
