Job summary

Hy-Vee is hiring Catering Clerks to support the Market Grille and Hy-Vee events. You will coordinate and deliver catering orders, greet customers with a smile, and work with the Catering Manager to ensure every interaction is friendly, efficient, and memorable.

This on-site role requires staying on the move in a fast-paced retail and catering environment, following safety and hygiene procedures, and assisting in other store areas as needed.

The Role and Why It's Important

In this role, you'll help coordinate and deliver catering orders, work alongside the Catering Manager, and ensure every customer interaction is friendly, efficient, and memorable. What You'll Do

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive one
• Deliver catering orders to customers in a prompt and efficient manner, collecting proper payment and returning it to the store
• Collect all delivery items from the corresponding departments according to the invoice and deliver all items appropriately
• Handle food safely, including proper use of a temperature log, reviewing food status and appearance for freshness, and rotating all perishable product with every delivery and event
• Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep your work area clean and organized throughout your shift
• Handle and resolve customer issues with care and professionalism
• Train new employees on how to coordinate and work an event
• Facilitate the maintenance and upkeep of delivery vehicles
• Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking product orders
• Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
• Report to work when scheduled and work the expected number of hours

Your Skills

• Solve practical problems and follow detailed, straightforward instructions with confidence
• Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately
• Communicate clearly and professionally with customers and team members, both verbally and in writing
• Work efficiently under time pressure to ensure orders are delivered on time

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Manager; Service Managers; Catering Department Manager; Assistant Catering Department Manager; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager

Education and Experience

• High school diploma preferred but not required
• Server experience is a plus; we will provide the training you need to succeed

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment

This role keeps you on the move in a fast-paced catering and retail environment where timely delivery is a priority. You'll regularly enter and exit a delivery vehicle, navigate staircases and varying terrain, and work in areas with temperature extremes, noise, dampness, and vibrations. There is daily exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
